Berniece B Douglas

Berniece Binks Douglas passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah. She was being treated for complications due to pneumonia. She was born June 2, 1921 in a modest farm house in Mapleton, Utah. She is the daughter of William John Binks and Hannah Georgianna Frost; she is the oldest of four children with sisters Mary Naomi Binks Wiscombe and LaVon Binks Talmage and brother William Bernell Binks. Her marriage to Max M Douglas was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 19, 1941. After their marriage, she and Max moved to Long Beach, California where he sought employment. Max joined the war effort in World War II in the Army Infantry and was deployed in the Philippines. Their son, Ronald Max Douglas, was born and Berniece learned to function as a single mother while Max was overseas. When Max returned he gained employment in the aerospace industry at Northrup Aircraft. Their daughter, Beverly Ann, was born a few years later.

Berniece became employed as a secretary at the Institute of Religion at Long Beach City College. Over the course of twenty years there she became loved and respected by the students who would refer to her as “Sister D.” She provided valuable assistance to several instructors and directors and was able to juggle all of the essential tasks involved in the various programs and classes. Throughout her life she served in several church callings in the Relief Society and in the Primary.

She and Max lived in Long Beach, California until Max retired and then moved to Springville, Utah in 1989 to be near the family members there.

She is survived by her brother, William Bernell Binks, her son, Ronald Max Douglas (Phyllis), her daughter, Beverly Ann Kelley, and grandchildren Michael Douglas (Kiffon), Tammy Daybell (Chad), Samantha Gwilliam (Jason), Matthew Douglas (Cherylyn), Benjamin Douglas (Kelsie), and Clinton Kelley. She also has twenty great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. There are also many nieces and nephews that came to love her as Aunt Berniece. Memories of her will be cherished and she will be missed by all.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel on 860 E. 200 N. Springville, Utah.  A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.  Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
