Carma Jean Barker Rasmussen of Mapleton, Utah, passed away on September 2, 2017, joining her eternal sweetheart after only 40 days being apart. She was 80 years old.
Carma was born May 24, 1937 in Springville, Utah, the oldest of five children born to Harold Edward and Afton Elnora Skinner Barker. Carma’s family moved to Mapleton in 1951. She graduated from Springville High School and LDS Seminary in May 1955. She married Gary A. Rasmussen in the Salt Lake Temple and were married 62 years. They built their home in Mapleton where they resided for over 60 years.
Carma was a great friend to everyone she met. She was proud of her pioneer heritage and a devoted member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a lifelong learner and had a quick wit and intelligence about her. She enjoyed reading and her book club, playing the piano, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and being a homemaker. Carma loved serving others—through service projects and in numerous church callings. She loved holidays, especially Christmas, and enjoyed decorating her home for each one. She loved her children and grandchildren, but most of all, she loved her husband Gary.
She is survived by her six children, Kyle (Melanie) Rasmussen of Provo, Laurie Rasmussen, Springville, Morgan (Karen) Rasmussen, Payson, Linda Rasmussen Haar, Boise, Idaho, Garth Rasmussen, Provo, and Layne Rasmussen, as well as her sisters, Marilyn (Melvin) Lemon, Katherine (Gary) Riches, her brother Reed (Judy) Barker, and sister-in-law Cherrie Barker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family. She also leaves behind 11 grandsons, 11 granddaughters, and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Gary on July 24, 2017, her parents, her brother Richard Barker, and son-in-law Glenn Haar.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 8, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at LDS Mapleton Stake Center 970 North 400 East Mapleton, Utah.
