Don LaMar Young

Don LaMar Young Passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side.

Don was born in Payson, Utah to Don and Lula Whipple Young September 11, 1919. He was the fourth of six children.

Don proudly served his country in WWII as a Sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division Stationed in the Philippine Islands, and was wounded in battle receiving a Purple Heart.

He worked at Geneva Steel as a millwright and was a proud member of The United Steelworkers of America, Local 2701. Serving as grievance man representing his fellow employees in the Coke Plant.  He was then elected Union President. He retired from Geneva and the union in 1982 and became the president of the Retired Steelworkers.

Don donated both his time and talent to the City of Springville when he Built the Retired Steelworkers Pavilion, and the Veterans Pavilion in Kelly’s Grove as well as the five beautiful flag poles at the Veterans Memorial, at Evergreen Cemetery.

He was Married to Ella Snow, they were later divorced.  He met Louise Kinsey at a dance, they married in 1956. Don and Louise danced, hunted, and fished together for 61 years. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Provo Temple, July 30, 2003.

Don is survived by his sweetheart Louise, his daughter Jerrie (Don) Carter, son Troy (Nikki) Young. 15 Grandchildren and 25 ¾ great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, his sons Terry & Weldon, and a granddaughter Kimberly Ann Young.

There will be a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville Monday July 31, 2017 at 10:00 AM.
