Welcome to the memorial page for

Evelyn Ann (Greiner) Christensen

August 15, 1931 ~ February 27, 2017 (age 85)

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Evelyn Ann Greiner Christensen, graduated from this earthly existence on Monday February 27, 2017 in Payson Utah at the age of 85. She was surrounded by family in her final moments. Evelyn is now free from the physical constraints and suffering of her body that she has suffered these last few years and is enjoying a glorious reunion with her husband, Austin, and the rest of her family.

Evelyn was born August 15,1931 in Morris County, Kansas on the family farm to Carey Fred and Ula Elizabeth (Sample) Greiner. She had an older brother and sister and a younger brother and sister. Evelyn spent the first 10 years of her life in Kansas with her family and extended family before moving to Gresham, Oregon. The family worked as migrant workers for the first five years in Oregon before finding factory work. Evelyn and her siblings all worked as berry pickers during the summer to earn their own money.

Evelyn graduated from Gresham High School in 1949. She worked as a secretary for two years after high school before starting college at Oregon State. She enjoyed the business classes that she took and was an excellent student. Her sophomore year she met her future husband at an exchange dinner. They were paired up because they were both tall. They were married September 18,1953 in Oregon and then moved to Ft. Belvoir, Virginia where Austin reported for duty in the Army.

Evelyn attended BYU for one semester before joining Austin in Germany where he had been assigned. Their first two sons, Gary and Jon, were born in Germany and Austin and Evelyn were sealed in the Swiss LDS Temple in 1957. The family continued to move around for Austin's Army career and they added a daughter, Leah, in Missouri, a son, Brian, and a daughter, Laurine, in Illinois, and a daughter, Melissa, in Virginia.

Evelyn was a dedicated wife and mother and her family was the most important part of her life. She spent many, many hours supporting her children in their activities. She was an excellent cook and extraordinary baker and was well known for her delicious pies. She spent her life in service of others and was always willing to help. Evelyn was gifted in sewing and spent long hours creating wonderful outfits for her children. She also enjoyed creating decorations for her home. After her children were in school she went back to work as a bookkeeper for a construction company and later an accounting firm. Evelyn was very organized and kept meticulous records of everything.

Evelyn was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a faithful member her whole life serving in many different capacities. She served as Relief Society president while her husband was Bishop when they lived in California. Evelyn was always serving and taking care of others.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Christensen, her parents Carey and Ula Greiner, two brother Kenneth Eugene and Dean Howard Greiner, and one sister Virginia Gehrke.

Evelyn is survived by her six children Gary (Lynn) Christensen, Virginia, Jon (Liz) Christensen, Utah, Leah (Daniel) Faber, Utah, Brian (Julie) Christensen, Washington State, Laurine (Perry) Hartman, Texas, Melissa (Alan) Brereton, Utah, one sister Carolyn Taylor, Oregon, 26 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

We Love You Mom! You will be greatly missed.

We will honor Evelyn's life at a family service on Friday March 3rd at Wheeler Mortuary at 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Utah Veteran's Cemetery at Camp Williams alongside her husband Austin.

The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at the Central Utah Veteran's Home for their loving care of Evelyn for the last 19 months and the staffs of Seasons of Santaquin, Reid's Park Place, and First Choice HHH for their wonderful care before that.
