Genevieve (Long) Schaugaard

November 11, 1930 — April 23, 2017

Genevieve Long Schaugaard, 86, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully, in the morning of Sunday April 23, 2017 at her home in Legacy Village, Provo, Utah, surrounded by loving family.
Genevieve, the oldest child of Thelma Warwood and Robert Merrill Long, was born in Springville, Utah on November 11, 1930.  She was a delightful child and an excellent student.  She called Dividend, Utah her home for many years and attended Tintic High School in Eureka, where she made life- long friends.   Playing clarinet in the Tintic High Marching Band was one of her prized memories.
It was during these fun times that Genevieve met Glen H Schaugaard on a blind date set up by their cousins.  They were married on July 21, 1948 in the Manti Temple, Manti, Utah for all time and eternity, a sacred vow she cherished.
Glen and Gen made their home in Springville, Utah, where they raised 7 children.  Gen’s service to her family, neighbors and friends made her an icon in the community.  She held countless callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints including Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women organizations, as well as one of her favorites, Cub Scouts, right alongside her husband.  She served two missions:  an 18 month Member Discovery Mission in American Fork, Utah and another as a switch board operator in the Provo Utah Temple.
Genevieve greatest service was to her family.  When Glen became ill, early in life, she made it her quest to be his strength, a job she accomplished with grace and dignity. She went to work at BYU Mail Services to help with finances and was loved by the many professors and staff members on her route.
Genealogy extraction became a great joy to Genevieve, a joy that she continued up until her death.  In the nearly fifty years that she carried out her extraction labors, starting with computer punch cards, Gen processed an entire reel of names written in Old German.  She helped beta test extraction programs and received commendations from the Church for her service as she worked towards extracting nearly one million names.
After her husband’s passing, Genevieve went to live with her son, Larry in Eagle Mountain, Utah where she was able to be around many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Later she moved to Cove point in Provo where see served in the Relief Society Presidency and then to Legacy Village in Provo, Utah.  Rather than worrying about herself, she loved to cheer others and although her time at Legacy Village was becoming difficult, she nevertheless made a point to visit others and bring them joy.
There are no words that can describe how much her hugs, and kisses on the cheek will be missed by her 7 children, 32 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren.
Genevieve is survived by 4 sons and 3 daughters:    Robert (Shirley) Schaugaard, Everett, WA; Larry (Kris) Schaugaard, Eagle Mountain, UT; Dan (Linda) Schaugaard, Spanish Fork, UT; Kathy (Hal) Swenson, Boise, ID; Annett (Gary) Baker, Lakemoor, IL; Paul Schaugaard, Farmington, MN; Sharon Schaugaard, Sandy, UT.   3 sisters:  Pat Long, Goshen, UT; Colleen Fields, Grantsville, UT; and Norma (Ron) Neilson Eureka, UT.
She is preceded in death by her husband Glen, grandson Daniel, granddaughter Kathryn, and brother, Gary Long.
The family wishes to express thanks to Kelcey Grinder and Debi Loys, her two faithful and loving nurses, Darla Simmons, who made her laugh, and Jared, plus the many helping hands at Legacy Village.
“DEATH is a PAIN no one can heal;
LOVE is a MEMORY no one can steal!”
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Church at 245 S. 600 E. in Springville.  There will be a viewing at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services.  Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary.
