Glenn Leonard Alleman, 90, passed away on September 16, 2017. He was born at home in Springville to William Starr Alleman and Mary Ellen Bell on March 29, 1927. Glenn married his “passion flower”, Afton Bennion, on June 6, 1951 in the Salt Lake temple.
Glenn was drafted into the Army in 1945 and served in World War II at the 38th parallel in Korea. Upon returning home he served an LDS mission in Texas and Louisiana. He graduated from BYU in 1953 and taught history at Las Vegas High School and Chaparral High School for 33 years. In conjunction with teaching, he continued to serve in the United States Army Reserve, retiring as a Major.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings throughout his life, including Bishop of the Las Vegas 14th Ward.
After retiring, Glenn and Afton returned to Springville where Glenn served as president of the Springville Historical Society for 19 years.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Afton, children; Kurt (Marie), Stuart (Cindy), Kris Dunn (Jeff), Karyl Lee Workman (Carlyle), and Von (Susan). He loved and enjoyed his 23 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at the LDS chapel located at 55 North Main Street in Springville. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 211 East 200 South, Springville. A visitation will also be held prior to the service at 10 a.m. Interment will be held in the Historic Springville City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent at www.wheelermortuaries.com.
