Jane Huntington Sargent (Dickie), 87, passed away on May 25, 2017 at her Springville home. She was born in Springville, Utah on July 3 1929, the youngest child of Richard A. and Margarethe Abildskov Huntington. She grew up with her sisters Virginia, Marie, and Luella. She married Merle Blair Sargent on June 19, 1952 in the Manti Temple.
She attended Grant Elementary School and graduated from Springville High School as a member of the class of 1947. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education and spent her 30-year career teaching in the Nebo School District in Spanish Fork, Springville, and Mapleton where she developed many lasting friendships with her students and colleagues.
She and Blair filled their lives with service to community, church, and family. They were co-chairs of the Art City Days parade in its third year and were honored as grand marshalls of the parade in 2004. They were also awarded with the Spirit of Springville Award in 1998. She served as chairman of the Springville Shade Tree Commission. Together they served service missions as employment specialists, as family history specialists and served as ordinance workers for 15 years in the Provo Temple.
She was an avid, accomplished golfer.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. The family wishes to thank Dr. Charles Dahl, Karen, and the rest of his staff for over 30 years of exceptional care.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 31, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kolob 8th Ward Chapel located at 800 South and 400 East in Springville. Friends may call at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 30 or at the church one hour prior to services.
