Janette Mae (Chapman) Knight

September 5, 1933 — October 13, 2016

Janette Mae Chapman Knight, 83 passed away October 13, 2016 in Provo, Utah, from complications of Diabetes.
She was born September 5, 1933 in Decatur, Illinois to Hubert Samuel Chapman and Esther Irene Hill.   They moved to Huntington Beach, CA and later to Salt Lake City, UT. She graduated from East High School and attended the U of U as a Physical Education major.  It was there she met her sweetheart Jo Lewis Knight.  They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 29, 1952. They enjoyed 53 years together.  Jo passed away November 4, 2005.   They are the parents of seven children.
Mom loved learning.  If she didn't know how to do something, that never stopped her.   Her career choice was wife, mother and homemaker.  She taught her children by example the value of hard work.  Mom did lots of odd jobs to make staying at home possible. When her youngest child started school, she worked at the Springville Herald, next as a bank teller and then became a rural route letter carrier in Springville. She worked there for 20 years.  Upon retiring she was a member of the Executive Board of the Utah Rural Letter Carriers. She served in this position for 6 years.
Mom loved music and passed this love on to her family. She had a beautiful soprano voice.  She was one of the original members of the women’s singing group “Musettes” and was their assistant director for four years.  She could sew anything, often without a pattern and made most of her children’s clothing.  She could turn a dime into a dollar!  Her family never went without.  She loved the sun and was an excellent gardener. Mom's flower gardens were beautiful.
Mom was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Over her lifetime she served in all organizations.  Mom and Dad served in the Denver Temple Mission from September 1997 through March 1999.
Preceding her in death was her husband Jo L. Knight; Daughter Rebecca (Becky) Cloward; daughter-in-law Jeannette L. Knight, grandson Cory Cloward; brother, Brent H. Chapman and sister Carrolyn Ripley.
She is survived by: sister Gail Throckmorton; brother Stephen Chapman; son Paul L. (Marian) Knight, son-in-law Paul (Sue) Cloward; daughter Rachael (B. Dana) Perrenoud; daughter Ruth (Clint) Bybee; daughter Berty (John) Harms; son Peter C. (Willa) Knight; son P. Joe Knight; 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Viewings will be held Tuesday October 25th from 6-8 pm at Wheeler Mortuary 211 E. 200 S., Springville; and Wednesday October 26, 10-10:45 a.m., 835 S. 500 W., Provo, UT.  Funeral to follow at 11:00.   In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the General Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Condolences may be sent at www.wheelermortuaries.com
