JoEll Swenson

June 22, 1933 — July 28, 2017

JoEll Swenson, 84, passed away July 28, 2017 after a fall and a battle with Alzheimer’s.

Paula JoEll Meyrick was born June 22, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant, UT to Hyrum and Dora (King) Meyrick. JoEll was a loving daughter and devoted wife and mother.

She married John Carl Swenson May 26, 1950, in Provo Utah, and that is when their adventures began. JoEll was always very supportive of John in his career, church callings, and hobbies. Mom traveled with daddy for work during their later years. On May 26, 1960, John and JoEll were sealed in the Manti Temple.

JoEll served in many callings in the LDS church. She served as a teacher in various auxiliaries, in several presidencies, and as Primary and Relief Society President. JoEll worked as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple for eleven years. She also loved her years at Utah Valley Hospital as a Pink Lady.

JoEll played Champion Duplicate Bridge. She always looked forward to the days she would meet her lady friends for lunch and afterwards play bridge. During the winter, Mom enjoyed snowmobiling in Scofield and playing on a bowling league with John & other couples. In summer, you could find her on the golf course with John and family or friends in the early evenings. JoEll earned her pilot’s license so she could co-pilot with John on some of his business trips.

JoEll spent many years doing genealogy and family history for her ancestors. She rode the bus to Salt Lake City to work at the church library and then served locally in the Springville Stake Genealogy Center. Mom loved this work of service for the living and for those who had passed on before.  Mother was a lifelong dog lover and owner.  She considered them part of the family.

JoEll is survived by her five children; Tamra (Boyd) Cobbley, Queen Creek, AZ; Kenneth (Debbie) Swenson, Salem, UT; David (Melissa) Swenson, Price, UT; Elaine (Todd) Olsen, Springville, UT; and Paula (John) Averett, Springville, UT. She is additionally survived by 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Maxine Swenson.

JoEll was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, sisters Crystal Poulson and Neva Wimmer, brothers Verl, Ronald and John, one granddaughter, Sharon Cobbley, and one son-in-law, Michael Wing.

Funeral Services will be held at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. Springville, UT, on Wednesday, August 2 at 11 am. A viewing will be held Tuesday, August 1 2017 between 6-8 pm and one hour prior to services, at the Wheeler Mortuary.   Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery, 700 South State Street, Provo, UT. following the funeral.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Legacy Care Center of Spanish Fork, UT, for the tender care given to JoEll.
