Marjorie Louise (Cole) Gardner

July 22, 1930 — November 14, 2015

Marjorie Louise Cole Gardner 85, of Mapleton, passed away November 14, 2015.
Marjorie was born in Logan, Utah on July 22, 1930, the first child of Larry Snow Cole and Lucy Gardner.
At the age of one she moved to Pasadena, California with her parents. When she was nine she moved back to Logan, where she finished elementary and high school. She attended Utah State University for one year. During this time she was involved in many clubs and activities.
Marjorie was sixteen years old when she met Wilford Gardner. Two years later on June 9, 1949, they were married in the Logan Temple. After living in Fort Collins, Co. for a summer they moved to Ames, Iowa where Wilford continued his education. After completion of his doctorate Wilford accepted a position at the U.S. Salinity Laboratory and the young couple moved to Riverside, California. It was during their thirteen years here that their three children Patricia, Robert Cole, and Caroline were born.
In 1966 Wilford received a professorship at the University of Wisconsin and the family moved to Madison. During Wilford’s and Marjorie’s tenure there Wilford was awarded a sabbatical in Belgium and so Wilford, Marjorie and family spent a year in Ghent, Belgium where they enjoyed living and learning about another culture.
In 1980 Wilford accepted a position at the University of Arizona and so Wilford and Marjorie moved again.  While living in Tucson Marjorie fulfilled her lifelong dream of completing her education.  In 1985 she graduated from The University of Arizona with a B.A. in English Literature.   It was also here in Tucson that Marjorie became involved in volunteer work with the YWCA.  In 1987 they returned to California where Wilford served as Dean of the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1994, they returned to Logan so Marjorie could care for her parents. In 2003 they moved to the Springville/Mapleton area to be closer to family.
Marjorie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She fulfilled many callings and responsibilities. She was an exceptional pianist and organist and enjoyed playing duets with Wilford, who was a flutist. Marjorie was called many times to serve as ward organist. Marjorie was also a wonderful cook and loved sharing meals with good friends. Marjorie enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to make life-long friends around the world. Marjorie also enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing, knitting and reading.
Marjorie is survived by her brother Richard, her son Robert (Rumi) Gardner, daughter Caroline (Micheal) Cobia, 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilford, and daughter Patricia.
