Martha (Mason) Barker

April 24, 1923 — January 9, 2018

Martha Mason Barker, 94, passed away on January 9 at her home.

Martha was born on April 24, 1923, in Springville to Albert Earl and Sarah Jones Mason.

She loved family, planning trips and reunions, singing and music, cooking and baking, the outdoors, and serving others. Her many hobbies included embroidery, quilting, tending her roses, and gardening. She especially loved people and seemed to know everyone in Springville.

She had a strong faith in the LDS Church and served in many callings including serving in the Primary for 35 years, initiating the Cub Scout program when it first began, and in the Young Women's organization. She was a great example and truly lived her faith.

Martha is survived by her children; Calvin (Pat) of Springville, Gloria Strasburg (Paul) of Springville, and Anita Sorensen (Eric) of Midvale, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Loyd, of almost 70 years and was sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple. She was also preceded by death by children Carol, Larene, and Robert; siblings Bessie, Georgia, Ronald, Leo, Mildred, Albert, Betty, and Delia; son-in-law Paul Strasburg, and grandson Kenny Strasburg.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Fifth Ward, 245 South 600 East, Springville. A viewing will be held the evening before at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the services at the LDS Fifth Ward. Burial will be at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
