FAMILIES ARE FOREVER

Our beautiful and beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Melba Colvin Perry, passed away peacefully at home July 19, 2017, with her family by her side. We take comfort in our belief that she and her husband, Leo Perry, have been reunited again after many years.

Melba was born May 13, 1924 in Bellvedere Gardens California to William Acel Colvin and Nettie Elizabeth Bull.  She grew up in Alhambra, California and excelled in singing in high school.  She married Leo Perry in 1944 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He was serving in the US Army during WWII.  After his return, they moved to Provo, UT.  Here they raised six children while Leo worked as the Provo Bureau Chief of the Deseret News.

Melba was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She served in many callings, including the Relief Society, MIA and Music Director.  She also wrote several plays for the Youth of the ward.  She worked in fine clothing stores and was a beautiful seamstress.

Composing music was something that Melba was known for.  She and her sister, Nancy Reid, published almost 32 songs, with LDS and many other themes.  Her Cantata “Behold The Son of Man Cometh,” was performed by several choirs.  Her most beloved song is “Families Are Forever.”

Melba and Leo were called on two full time missions; Broadway, VA. and Honolulu, HI.

Melba is survived by her sister, Nancy Gail Reid (Wilson) and her 6 children, Sharon, Rowan, Marsha, Robert, Michael and Leo Jonathan. She has 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, Brother Wesley, Sister Virginia, Grandson Jedediah and Granddaughter Kamie.

The family would like to thank the staff at Canyon Hospice, Daytime care givers, Shanelle Johnson, Sherry Casper and Angela Oliveira and all the children and grandchildren who helped and served her.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, July 22 at 10 a.m. at the Kolob 12th Ward Chapel on 1627 Cadbury Lane, Springville, UT. Viewings will be held, Friday, July 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S, Springville, UT. and Saturday, one hour prior to the services at the church.  Burial will be in the Springville City Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent at www.wheelermortuaries.com.
