Obituary for Richard Keith Miner
Richard Keith Miner, 92, of Springville, died at his home Tuesday, March 7th, from conditions due to congestive heart failure.  He was born July 9, 1924 to Floyd Lee and Margaret Amelia Johnson Miner.  He grew up in Springville attending local schools, working on the family farm and in his father’s grocery store.  He graduated from Springville High School in 1942 amidst World War II and shortly thereafter served in the 104th Infantry Division.  While on a ten day furlough, he married his High School sweetheart, Helen Clegg, in the Manti Temple on July 5, 1944, just prior to going overseas.  He served in France, Holland, and Germany, and received the Silver Star for “gallantry beyond the call of duty” for helping to rescue and care for the wounded in battle.
Following the war, Dick and Helen moved to Portland, Oregon where he attended Dental School.  Upon graduation, he practiced in Portland and Vancouver for six years before returning to Springville in 1954.  He established his Dental practice on 200 East and worked there until his retirement.  He loved Dentistry.
He was active in civic councils and boards which helped bring to Springville a golf course at Kelly’s Grove, an annual “Art City Days,” and an open Art Gallery during the summer months to attract tourists.
Richard was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He held many callings and served as a Bishop in the University Park Ward in Portland, in the Springville Kolob 2nd Ward, and at BYU.  He served as an Ordinance worker in the Provo Temple for many years and was a Patriarch in the Kolob Stake. He was a fierce defender and promoter of The Book of Mormon, and described himself as an “avid student of the gospel.”
He was gentle, warm, loving and kind, and graciously welcomed all who came to his home.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Helen, who faithfully cared for him during his long illness, and his six children: Richard (Rhea) Miner, Las Vegas; Alan (Barbara) Miner, Springville; Jane Miner, Providence; Mary (Tom) Cherrington, Providence; Ann (David) Makin, Springville; Gary (Sharlene) Miner, Draper; 25 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. Two great grandchildren preceded him in death, as did his brothers and sisters: Lee (Harriett) Miner, Evelyn (Ernest) Boyer, Harriet (Bert) Strong, and LaMar (Marjorie) Miner. The family would like to thank Margaret Talker and the Intermountain Homecare team for their help, comfort and care these past few months.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kolob 8th Ward Chapel, 800 S. 400 E. Springville, UT.  A viewing will be held at the Springville Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Sunday March 12, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services.  Interment will be at Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
