Robert Louis McGregor

July 13, 1922 — March 15, 2017

Our beloved Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend, Robert (Bob) Louis McGregor returned to his heavenly home on March 15th, 2017.
Bob was born July 13th, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to James Stephens McGregor and Agatha Georgina Woods. He was the youngest, and last surviving, of seven children. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on the family farms as well as acting in dramas at school.
He married the late Melba Jo Bryant on January 4th, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake temple in 1955. Jo passed away in St. George in May of 2006. They are survived by their two daughters, Robyn
Lynne (Dell) Card and Mary Lou Diezsi, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren with one on the way.
After graduating from Ogden High School, Bob attended one year at Weber State College before enlisting in the Armed Services in January 1942. He served in the Army Corp, of Engineers in both the European and Pacific Theaters before being honorably discharged December 25th, 1945. He also served in the Army Reserves during the Korean War in Alaska for one year. He was a true American patriot.
Bob worked for 23 years at the Glendale, California fire department as an engineer. He also served as a land surveyor and carpenter before moving back to Utah. Bob and Jo moved to Woodland, Utah in 1968 where he built a cabin on the Diamond Bar X ranch. About 9 years later, he then renovated a home on a 100- year-old homestead in Woodland. While there, he served as a Justice of the Peace for Summit County. All together they lived in Woodland for 24 years where Jo set up an art studio and Bob enjoyed working on the homestead, serving in the community and was a school bus driver.
They moved to St. George, Utah in 1990 where Bob continued to work as a Senior Justice Court Judge.  He became known as "The Marrying Judge" officiating about 3,000 marriages during his judicial career. He worked in the St George Temple baptistery for nearly 8 years. Several years after the death of his wife in 2006 Bob moved to Provo, Utah to be closer to his family.
During his time there, he enjoyed spending time with all his family and friends. In June, 2014 accompanied by his daughter, Robyn, he was pleased to be included in one of the Honor Flights; which took World War II veterans to Washington, DC to be recognized and to see the WWII memorial, and see other memorials. It was a tremendous trip for he and his daughter.
Bob McGregor was an extraordinary man with the highest principles. He was humble, thoughtful, and compassionate. He was an honorable priesthood holder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served the church in many capacities throughout his life, his favorite calling being that of Scout Master. He always led with kindness and patience.
His quiet example of love, generosity, and warmth of spirit will be keenly missed by those who were honored to know him. His life will live on through the lives of his family and through the daily journal entries he kept for over 70 years.
The family would like to thank the Cove Point community and the Horizon Hospice team for their exceptional care during his final weeks. Bob's ashes will be laid to rest at a grave side service held Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 at noon at the Woodland City Cemetery, Woodland, Utah.
