Uarda (Richens) Clark

July 24, 1925 — July 1, 2017

Uarda “Mike” Richens Clark, formally of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully July 1, 2017 at her son’s home in San Tan Valley, Arizona after an extended illness.  She was a devoted daughter of God who teased her children, played games with her grandchildren, and ‘batted balloons’ with her great grandchildren.
‘Mike’ was born July 24, 1925 in Maeser, Utah to Charles LeRoy Richens and Sylvia Louisa Bodily.  Her early years were spent on the family farm with her three brothers and four sisters where she became her father’s ‘right-hand man’ once her elder brothers left home.  She attended Maeser School and graduated from Uintah High School, winning awards for her secretarial skills.  During WWII she worked as a secretary at the Ogden, UT Defense Depot, and as secretary to an Army Captain in Seattle, WA.  The Captain, unable to remember her unusual name, nicknamed her ‘Mike’.  She preferred her nickname and went by ‘Mike’ the rest of her life.
She married Herbert Haigh Clark August 21, 1945 in Seattle.  They raised six children, Linda Ruth (Michael Wall), Herbert Alan (Nancy Alphin), Patricia Ann (Jerry Hemphill), Michael LeRoy (Mary Curtis), Paul Steven, and Randy Lynn (Lorraine Wood). They were sealed as an eternal family April 21, 1976 in the Provo, Utah temple.
In their early married life, Herb worked in Utah, Nevada, and Idaho ultimately raising their family in Rock Springs, WY, where they owned two businesses.  They chose to live out their ‘retirement’ in lovely Springville, UT where Herb again owned a grocery store, and ‘Mike’ worked at the Excelsior Hotel in Provo.  They planted an orchard and large garden on the property behind their home.
‘Mike’ was preceded in death by her parents, six of her siblings, her husband, Herb, and her son-in-law, Mike Wall, who also passed away July 1.

There will be a viewing held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. in Springville from 9:15 to 9:45.  Graveside services will follow in the Historic Springville City Cemetery at 10 a.m.
