Dean Harold Smith

Father and grandfather Dean Harold Smith, age 82, passed away June 12, 2017.  He was born July 22, 1934 in Springville Utah to Frederick Harold Smith and Bernice Pearle Gore.  He was the third of four children.  He was a graduate of Springville High School where he played football and basketball.
He married Marian Jean Hulce in the Springville Presbyterian church on November 24, 1954 and later they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 18, 1957.  They had been married for 49 years until her passing on April 30, 2003.
Harold served in the Army National Guard Reserve from September 1952 to September 1955, and he received an honorable discharge.  He worked as a railroad switchman at Geneva Steel Company, Geneva Utah, for 35 years.  Later he worked as a night guard at Signetics in Orem Utah, and then as a night guard at a local hotel until his final retirement.
He enjoyed hunting in the mountains of Utah, fishing many lakes and streams.  He enjoyed camping, golfing, woodworking, and he especially loved oil painting where was featured in many local newspaper articles.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as a scout leader and Sunday school teacher.
Harold is survived by his children:  Joseph Dean (Linda) Smith of Springville; Julie Smith (Rick) Hall of Tooele; Thomas Harold Smith of Salt Lake City; Jean Smith (Mark) Wilson of Springville; Carole Smith (Rick) Brailsford of Santaquin.  He leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Also 2 brothers: Gordon Frederick (Roberta) Smith of Springville; and Raymond Allen (Karen) Smith of Blackfoot, Idaho.  He was preceded in death by his wife Marian Hulce Smith, and a sister Hazel Wynette Smith Farrer.
A viewing for friends and family will be held Thursday, June 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville.   Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hobble Creek West Stake Center, 555 South 600 East, Springville. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the services at 10:00 a.m.
