Donald Glenn Rumsey

February 22, 1966 — August 28, 2019

Donald Glenn Rumsey, 53, of Hooper died suddenly on August 28, 2019, doing what he loved.

Don was born February 22, 1966 in Smyrna, TN to Mary Landrum and William Rumsey.

He was a loving father to his four children Randy (Jessica) Rumsey, Tara Rumsey, Kimberly (Somchai) Dritlein, Braxton Jones and his granddaughter, Nicole. He had nine brothers and sisters Wanda Gaston, Mike (Elena) Rumsey, Brian Rumsey, Tina Smith, Elizabeth (Josh) Gamon, James (Anastasia) Abbott, Alan (Mercedes) Abbott, Markie Abbott and Phillip Abbott.

He was educated in Texas. He married Brenda Martin in 1984 and they were married for 14 years.

Don’s children were the center of his life and his pride and joy. He spent every moment he could with them and his love and dedication to them was second to none.

His laugh was contagious and from that smile of his, you always knew you were his friend. It took a lot to wipe that smile off, but then it was right back again.

Don was adventurous and loved the outdoors. He would go camping and hiking every chance he got. He enjoyed collecting rocks and would find unusual shapes to share with his children. He liked hiking the river through the golf course and collecting the stray golf balls on his way up to Water Fall Canyon. There wasn’t a canyon along the Wasatch Front that he hadn’t hiked and explored. He passed his love of adventure on to his family who have many wonderful memories under the open sky with him.

He was an excellent carpenter and loved woodworking. He was also a very good mechanic. He was a “fix anything” kinda man, using his ingenuity which allowed him to fix just about anything using a variety of resources. He was often thought of as “MacGyver”. Don was a kind and giving soul who selflessly offered his time and these talents to anyone in need, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Abbott, Stepfather John Abbott and grandparents.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue.
