Gary A. Rasmussen

Gary A. Rasmussen of Mapleton, Utah, passed away July 24, 2017. He was 83.

Gary was born October 22, 1933 in Provo, Utah, the fourth of 12 children born to F. Blaine and Eva Jane Rasmussen. He graduated from Provo High School. He married Carma Jean Barker in the Salt Lake Temple and were married 62 years. He built their home in Mapleton where they resided for over 60 years.

Gary worked as a brick mason and at Geneva Steel before beginning his 35-year career at Brigham Young University. He retired at 60 so he could devote more time to his family and hobbies. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, tying flies for fishing, playing softball, hiking Mount Timpanogos, camping, canoeing, and BYU sports. He was an excellent marksman and loved guns and shooting, qualifying as a sharp shooter in the military. He was an Eagle Scout who was involved in scouting for most of his life, as well as a recipient of the distinguished Silver Beaver Award.

He is survived by his eternal sweetheart, Carma, his six children, Kyle (Melanie) Rasmussen of Provo, Laurie Rasmussen, Springville, Morgan (Karen) Rasmussen, Payson, Linda Rasmussen Haar, Boise, Idaho, Garth Rasmussen, Provo, and Layne Rasmussen, as well as several siblings, nieces and nephews, and extended family. He also leaves behind 11 grandsons, 11 granddaughters, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, and son-in-law Glenn Haar.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 28, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Mapleton Stake Center 970 North 400 East Mapleton, Utah. Family and friends may call on Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wheeler Mortuary, 82 West 400 North, Mapleton, Utah and on Friday afternoon from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah. Condolences may be sent at www.wheelermortuaries.com.
