Hilda Ruth (Schneider) Johnson

Hilda Ruth Schneider Johnson, 75, completed her 9 year battle against Alzheimer’s with tenacity and grace on August 1st, 2018.  She was born September 12th, 1942 in Casper, Wy and raised on Lyon’s Valley Road in Lander, WY.  Hilda loved to play on the ranch and her favorite game was cowboys and Indians.  She loved to ride horses all over the ranch.  Her favorite pet was a runt pig named Porky she bottle fed from birth.  She would wrap Porky in a blanket and push her around in a baby buggy.  She always loved camping, being outside and enjoying nature.  Hilda graduated LVHS in 1960.

After a short marriage and 3 children with Lyle Abercrombie, she met and married the love of her life, Wally Johnson on September 10th, 1965 and were sealed in an LDS temple for time and eternity Dec 9th, 1995.  They added two more daughters, completing their family. They lived in Orem and Spanish Fork, Utah until 1982, when they moved to Lander, WY.  She worked at Vic’s Bar, the B&B and then managed the Elk’s Lodge for several years.  She moved on to the Lander hospital to work as a secretary in ICU until her and Wally moved back to Utah in 1995.  Hilda worked at Mountain View Hospital in Payson, UT for 15 years and retired in 2012.  Hilda spent her time after retirement keeping her mind busy with oil painting, crocheting, sewing and taking care of her cats.  She loved to spend time with her sister Virginia rock hunting in southern Utah and proudly displayed her treasures throughout her house.  Hilda worked hard her entire life.  Up until the end she chopped her own wood and mowed not only her lawn, but also her neighbor’s.  Hilda was a tough, independent woman from the ranches of Wyoming, and used that fighting spirit in her battle against Alzheimer’s.

Hilda is the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Ruth Schneider.  She is survived by her children, Leslie and Dan DeLozier, Pocatello, ID, Cindy and Dale Ebbeka, Wayne, NE, Bob and Nannette Johnson, Henderson, NV, Christina and Todd Manning, Springville, UT, and Sara and Doug Hall, Salem, UT, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, her sister Virginia and Richard Chrisman, Casper, WY.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents and her brother Bill Schneider.

A viewing will be held Saturday, August 4th, 2018 at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, UT at 12 pm with a graveside service immediately following.
