Janice (Sargent) Weight

Janice Sargent Weight, of Springville, passed away on August 24, 2018 after 86 years of selflessly caring for others.

She was born on April 3, 1932 in Nephi Utah, the third child of David Merle and Oleah Huff Sargent.  Her family moved to Springville in 1933.  Janice graduated from Springville High School where she was active in student government.  She attended BYU as a Clothing and Textiles major and sang in the BYU A Capella choir.  She was a gifted seamstress and used that talent to create beautiful clothing for her family.

Janice married Marvin Kae Weight on September 2, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple and together they celebrated the joys and vicissitudes of mortal life.  She was his constant support.  Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings in Primary and Relief Society and cherished her association with the women with whom she served.  Janice was a people person, loved to visit with her lifelong friends, and made a sincere effort to stay in touch with her extended family.

She was born to a family of gifted musicians who valued those gifts.  She started singing alto by ear at age 2 and sang throughout most of her life.  She and her husband Kae sang together at scores of funerals.  In her younger years she and her sister Ruth sang duets, accompanied by their Brother Blair on the guitar.  Together they performed throughout the state and had a weekly program on KOVO radio.

Most significantly, she discovered exquisite joy in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  Her family will deeply miss her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, her son John, her parents, and her brothers Blair and Quinn.  She is survived by her children:  Val Weight of Salt Lake City, Gary (Kristi) Weight of Daniel, Ruth Ann Weight of Fillmore, and Clayne (Margo) Weight of Mapleton; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and her siblings:  Ruth (Charles) Payne of Woods Cross, David (Martha) Sargent of Springville, and Gloria Collins of Santaquin.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 840 South 400 East in Springville.  There will be a viewing held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. in Springville and at the chapel on Thursday one hour prior to the services.  Interment will in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
