Karen (Reed) Mildenhall

Karen Reed Mildenhall, 69, of Springville, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018.  She was born December 19, 1948 in Springville to George Martain Reed and Marilyn Crandall.

Karen was raised in Springville and graduated from Springville High School.  She attended the Utah Technical College after graduation.  She married Ron Mildenhall on December 30, 1970 and they later divorced.  Karen raised her family in West Valley City among wonderful friends and neighbors.  She was loved by her fellow ward members for her kindness and willingness to serve those in need. She opened her home to her children and their friends where she always made sure there were treats to eat, offered a listening ear for those who wanted to talk, and reminded everyone to always choose the right.  She loved making arts and crafts, to sew, and began taking painting classes over the last few years.  Karen loved to read, especially books related to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and early U.S. history.  She also enjoyed being involved with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Karen moved back to Springville in 2001 when she went to work for BYU Dining Services and spent many years working at the Senior Missionary Training Center.  She retired in 2013 and then spent her time caring for her aging mother.  She was a faithful, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She served diligently in all of her callings, most importantly as a mother and grandmother.  The greatest gospel sermon she ever preached to her children was how she lived her life.  She was charitable and kind and a friend to those who needed a friend the most.  She loved her family and ended every telephone conversation and visit with her children and grandchildren by saying “I love you”.   She was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her three children Scott (Julia), Jennifer Strickland (Dave), and Mike (Joni); her sisters Nancy Reed, Diane Hatfield (Kevin), and brothers David Reed (Gwen) and Richard Reed (Susan).  She had 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00 at the LDS Chapel located at 355 East Center Street, Springville, Utah.  A viewing will be held Friday morning from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Chapel.  Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
