R. Steven Kappas

March 29, 1952 — June 8, 2019

Steve Kappas, age 67, passed away on Sat. June 8, 2019 in Springville, UT. Steve was born on March 29, 1952 in Provo, UT and lived his whole life in Mapleton & Springville.
He graduated from Springville High School in 1970 and was proud to be a Mighty Red Devil. He served as a member of the SHS Alumni Association for over 15 years and was recently serving as President. He also served as a founding member of the Parks Board in Springville for years. Steve was a proud member of the Teamsters Union Local 222 for over 41 yrs, and served on the Executive Board, and as a Union Steward.
He married his sweetheart, Julie Peterson on August 31, 1973 and they have spent their lives together for the last 46 years in Springville.
When he wasn’t spending time at the Monogram Station or on the set of several movies and tv shows, Steve enjoyed spending his time coaching youth baseball, along with watching his kids and later grandkids play their various sports. After retiring, he loved to travel and spend his winters with Julie in Beaver Dam, Arizona.
Nothing meant more or made him happier in this life than his family. His zest for life, sense of humor, and bright smile was always the life of every gathering.
Steve is survived by his wife, Julie and his children; Clayton (Sara) Kappas of Idaho Falls, Jennie (Tyler) Olsen of West Jordan, Bryan (Rachael) Kappas of Springville, and Scott (Nikki) Kappas of Mapleton, and his 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David (Sarah) Rogers, and sisters Sharon (Larry) Russell, and Barbara Gant.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother Jennie Marie Kappas, sisters Diana Gabbitas and Stella Kappas, including his grandparents, Steven & Hazel Kappas.
The family invites all to come in your Red Devil apparel to honor Steve on Friday evening, June 14th from 6-8pm at the Mapleton White Church (31 W. Maple St.)
Funeral Services will be held at the same location on Sat. June 15th at 11am. Prior to funeral, a viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 am.
Interment will be held at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
