Rulon P Condie

Rulon P. Condie D.D.S. was released from his earthly ministry after a yearlong battle with cancer. He passed away at home. With him were his wife, Marylou, and his family.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 15, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hobble Creek Stake Center 495 South Canyon Road, Springville, Utah. Friends and Family may call Thursday, June 14, 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah and Friday from 9:00-10:30 prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.

Born to Arthur Earl and Jessie Packard Condie in the Payson Utah Hospital, on 28 February 1945, Rulon, along with his siblings, Phyllis, Packard, Jane, and Lee enjoyed a comfortable, nurturing home, but one with few luxuries. Arthur ran a dairy farm in Springville, Utah and to help provide and support the family, Rulon milked cows morning and night and had a bicycle paper route. The jobs obviously developed in him a capacity for hard work that later enabled him to accomplish a myriad of responsibilities—both at work and for the Church.

Rulon led a remarkable life of missionary work and service. Growing up, he learned the gospel from his parents by both precept and example. He relied on gospel principles to guide him as a youth surviving a near-death auto accident in his senior year of high school, as a young adult preaching the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, as a student at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, and as a businessman running a flourishing dental practice and family farm.

Soon after his return from his mission in the North Central States, Rulon began dating Marylou Craig whom he had grown up in the 9th ward with. By the spring of 1968, the two had managed to spend enough time together to know they loved each other. They were married for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on 8 August 1968. This August would have been their 50thwedding anniversary.

Rulon and Marylou raised eight children and set an example of love and devotion. Even during the busy years of Rulon’s service to the ward as a Counselor and Bishop and as a First Counselor in the Hobble Creek Stake Presidency, his family was always his first priority.

The scenario of a more leisurely life after retirement, not a chance. Rulon turned his successful dental practice over to his son Jared to accept a two-year call to the Scotland Ireland Mission where he and Marylou spent their time serving young single adults. After their mission, he and Marylou relished their time as grandparents to 38 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

While his true greatness might not be known by the world at large, the thousands of little deeds and tasks of service and sacrifice are his legacy. He was patient, a good listener, a faithful friend with an infectious sense of humor, and, above all, a “good and faithful servant” of the Lord.

Rulon Packard Condie is survived by his wife Marylou, his sister Jane Jones, sister in law Darlene Condie, his children: David (Tamra) Layton, UT; Craig (Renee) Lehi, UT; Amy VanWoerkom (Doug) Highland, UT, Jared (Sydney) Springville, UT; Emilee (Mike) Springville, UT; Cassie Hill Meridian, ID; Amanda Quarnberg (Josh) Springville, UT, and Maryann Springville, UT, and 39 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Jessie, brothers Packard and Lee, and his sister Phyllis.
