Stella Maris McManus

January 20, 1918 — June 12, 2017

Provo, Utah — Stella Maris McManus, a long-time resident of Springville Utah, died Monday the 12th of June at Utah Valley Hospital, in Provo Utah. She was 99 and a half.

Born in 1918 in Manchester England during the closing weeks of World War I, she saw the hardships and triumphs of a nation at war through the Great War and World War II.  She was born to John Bevan and Clara Burgess. She served in the land army for Great Britain during World War II while her husband Joseph Maurice McManus served in the Royal Air Force.

In January 1958 Stella and her husband Joe and their three daughters immigrated to Toronto Canada. In 1959 they moved to Pasadena California where they raised their family and enjoyed the post war economic resurgence of the USA.

Stella sang most of her life in operettas, choral groups, and church choirs throughout Europe and the United States.

In 1963 she starred in a Gilbert and Sullivan production, the Mikado, with her husband Joseph and their daughters. She was a social butterfly with a contagious personality,

She is survived by her three daughters Ann Johnson-Stone, Yvonne Garcia, and Stephanie Castle, 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Monday, June 19 at 12 p.m. at the Hobble Creek 12th ward chapel on 950 S. 1700 E, Springville, UT.  A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Condolences may be sent at www.wheelermortuaries.com.
