A. Packard Condie

November 27, 1934 — September 7, 2015

Arthur Packard Condie completed his labors in this life on Labor Day (7 September 2015). He was 80 years old. He was born on 27 November 1934, to Arthur Earl & Jessie Packard Condie. Packard’s life can be characterized by four words: Faith, Family, Fun and Fortitude.
Packard had incredible faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Not only did he have an unwavering testimony, but he lived the Gospel every day. His strong faith led him to serve in many different callings in the LDS Church throughout his life, including serving as a bishop and serving two full-time missions—one as a young man and one with his sweetheart, Darlene Rowley Condie. He was a great missionary and was always ready to share the Gospel with anyone he met.
Packard’s family was very important to him and he took great satisfaction in his 8 children, 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He loved each one of us unconditionally and taught us by example. He loved to tease and kid with us and he always enjoyed our family get-togethers.
Having fun was an important part of his life. Packard loved to laugh and had a smile on his face. His family and others around him have all received the advice to “Smile, why don’t ya.” Packard was a positive thinker and an optimist. He always looked for the positive in people and in his life in general.
Packard had many challenges and adversities in his life, which were very difficult, but he faced them with fortitude. His faith strengthened him and his positive attitude helped him to rise above these adversities. He taught his children to never give up and keep a positive outlook on life. In later life, when asked how he was doing, his response was normally, “I think I’m gonna’ to make it today.” Packard knew he could make it through any adversity.
When Packard died, he was likely greeted by those who preceded him in death, his son Nello Rowley Condie, his parents Arthur Earl and Jessie Packard Condie, and his siblings Phyllis Condie and Lee Condie. It wouldn’t surprise us if they all sat down together for a bowl of ice cream to celebrate Packard’s graduation from earthly life.
His wife Darlene Rowley Condie who lovingly cared for him for many months prior to his death survives him, as well as, seven of his children and their families: Terri Lee and Brad Graff (Lindon, Utah), Arthur Rowley and Janice Eileen Condie (Springville, Utah), Karen and John Edlund (Pleasant Grove, Utah), Don Rowley and Michelle Condie (West Jordan, Utah),Diane and Michael Loosle (Salt Lake City, Utah), Marie Condie (Springville, Utah), Reed and Aymee Condie (Springville, Utah); and his grand-children and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Jane and Jack Jones and Rulon and Marylou Condie all of Springville, Utah.
Services to celebrate Packard’s life will be held Friday, September 11, at 11 am in the Grasslands 2nd Ward building, 878 West Center Street in Springville, Utah. A viewing from 10-10:45am will precede the services on Friday. Additionally a viewing will be held Thursday evening, September 10, from 6-8 pm at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville, Utah.
