Thatcher, AZ

Barbara Pead Jacobson, a resident of Thatcher, Arizona, passed away peacefully January 13, 2024. Barbara was born on May 25, 1927, to Lathiar Pead and Mary Ann Rowberry Pead. They were overjoyed with the birth of their only daughter. She spent her childhood in Utah along with her older brother, Jack and younger brother, Lee. Barbara met Fay “Jake” Jacobson at a Thanksgiving Dance in Randolph, Utah. He knew right away that Barbara was the woman he was going to marry. They married in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 27, 1946. After 66 years of marriage, Fay preceded Barbara in death on February 8, 2013.

Barbara spent her early years of marriage living in Randolph, Utah. While in Brigham City, Utah, Dick “Jake” and Bryan joined the family. The family moved to Provo where Fay began working for the water plant at Brigham Young University and their daughter, Debbie joined the family. The family then made their home in Springville, Utah and their final son, Neil was born. Barbara loved her role as a mother and enjoyed sharing Fay’s hobbies of fishing, hunting and camping as a family.

In 1965 when Neil was in first grade, Barbara began school at Brigham Young University. Taking five credits at a time, she finished her general education classes and began her nursing classes and clinicals in Salt Lake City. She worked as a student nurse at Utah Valley Hospital and upon graduation the Labor and Delivery Department offered her a full-time position. Barbara later worked with the home health department and served hospice patients throughout the Utah Valley. Barbara spent her life serving and caring for others. She was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities in the church throughout her life including serving as the ward Relief Society President several times. Barbara had a love for genealogy and temple work and connecting families eternally. Her favorite calling was serving as a Youth Sunday School teacher alongside her husband.

Barbara leaves behind: her children, Richard Jacobson (Judy), of Magna, Utah, Bryan Jacobson (Debbie), of Hurricane, Debbie Elms, of Thatcher and Neil Jacobson (Denise), of Cedar City, Utah; fourteen grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
