Betty Lou Anderson

April 25, 1927 — June 2, 2024

Orem, UT

Betty Lou Anderson, age 97, of Springville Utah, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024.  She was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on April 25, 1927, the oldest child of Thora Ann Thurman and Alfred Parsons Furniss. Her mother later married George Louis Tetley, and she was sealed to her mother and stepfather in the Temple.

She married George Ronald Anderson August 9, 1943 in Los Angeles, California and their marriage was solemnized in the St. George Temple on June 9, 1951. She was the proud mother of eight children. Her husband George preceded her in death on November 19, 2006.

Betty was a World War II bride and while George was serving in the Marine Corps and on his way to Iwo Jima, Betty gave birth to their second child George Jr., who passed away a month after his birth. She was very blessed & happy to see George return home after the war.

Betty was a homemaker, an excellent baker and cook (she made the best pie crust) and prepared meals up into her 90’s. She loved singing and had a beautiful alto voice. She loved music, especially classical music, show tunes and musicals. She enjoyed reading and learning new things and was an avid crossword puzzler for much of her life. You could never beat her at Scrabble!

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch and gardening. She loved to travel and helped plan many family trips to the beach, mountain cabins, camping, hiking, museums, zoo’s, observatories and visiting other states. She also traveled later in her life to Alaska, Washington D.C. and Hawaii. She looked forward to celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the 4th of July and always decorated for them and made special, yummy food & treats.

What a witty sense of humor she had and would show her sassiness as she rolled her beautiful blue eyes and gave you “that sideways look”. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Betty had a very strong testimony, fueled by faith and her love of God. She faithfully served in the many callings she received throughout her life and met challenges with grit and a fierce strength.

Betty is survived by seven children: Claudia (Lou) Nackos of Columbus, Texas; Erik (Debi) Anderson of Springville, Utah; Judy Anderson of Orem, Utah; Eileen Younkin of Cedar City, Utah; Greg (Kelli) Anderson of Eagle Mountain, Utah; Carol (Reed) Harrison of Orem, Utah; David Scott Anderson of American Fork, Utah; 52 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son George Ronald Anderson Jr. and sister Ann Marie Goulding.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Hobble Creek 5th Ward Chapel, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, at 1460 East 900 South in Springville, Utah. A viewing at this location will be held prior to the funeral service from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
