Cheryl Smith Cazier, our beloved Wife, Sister, Mom, Gram, Aunt and friend, left this life peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the age of 80. She was born May 4, 1945 in Springville, Utah to Albert Hasting and Emma Lucille Taylor Smith. Cheryl suffered for many years with her health, but endured to the end with much grace and kindness. To use the words of her beloved CNA; Sage, Cheryl handled her fading health like a champ, and was admired by many for her inner strength and calm spirit as she endured to the end.
Cheryl was an exemplary mother figure and human being. She embodied the best of qualities; unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen by her caregivers, family and friends. She had a warm, engaging personality and a genuine love for people. The world is a little less bright without her in it; she will be deeply missed.
Cheryl graduated as a Red Devil from Springville High School where she met many lifelong friends and met the love of her life, Clyde W Cazier. Her graduating class had two students named Cheryl Smith, with her beautiful blonde hair she became known as Cheryl Light, and her brunette classmate was known as Cheryl Dark. She was known for wearing the latest fashions, had a giggle that made people look twice, and her friends were many.
She married her husband Clyde W Cazier on December 10,1964 and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2024. Clyde passed away on June 26th 2025. On their 61st anniversary in 2025 Cheryl’s heart broke just a little bit more, she missed the love of her life immensely. As we grieve her loss, our hearts find comfort knowing she is back in the arms of her beloved husband. Together they built a beautiful life and raised two daughters in Springville and Mapleton. They are the parents of Adrian Douglas and Andraya (Brian) Hanchett. Together they have 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
As a mother, Cheryl was the heart of our home, the light in our family’s life, and the silent force that kept everything together. Cheryl fully believed that dogs, feathered friends and all 4-legged animals were part of the family. Her love for animals was well-known by all. She was giving to a fault, but was never afraid to vocalize anything she thought someone needed to hear, especially if that someone was one of her children. Beyond responsibilities, she was the emotional anchor of our home. She provided comfort during tough times, supported and celebrated small victories, and ensured that her family always felt loved. Her love for making all holidays and family celebrations special, are now some of our fondest memories. Her love, patience, and hard work did not go unnoticed. She loved to be surrounded by family, and never ran out of love to share.
Cheryl was a homemaker until her children were grown. She began working outside the home as a cashier at Brookside Service. She later became a bank teller for First Security Bank and excelled as a Personal Banker for Wells Fargo for over 20 years. Over her banking career Cheryl received many Awards of Excellence for her outstanding achievements, exceptional performance and commitment to serving customers’ needs, which had a long-lasting effect on the growth of the company. She was genuinely interested in everyone she met over her career and treated each person with love and kindness.
Cheryl was a member in her Faith, serving callings in Primary and Relief Society. She loved fashion and interior design throughout her lifetime. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed beautiful clothes for her girls as they grew up. She loved Pepsi, decorating her home for holidays, birds and animals, gardening, Pepsi, BYU sports, shopping, Pepsi, socializing with friends, going out to eat, chocolate and did we mention Pepsi? We sure hope that Mom was able to find a Pepsi or two when she arrived in Heaven, water was not her drink of choice!
She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde W. Cazier; parents Albert Hasting and Emma Lucille Smith; her brother Boyd and sister-in-law Shirley Smith; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Clyde Brown and Delna Cazier; her sister-in-law Bernetta and brother-in-law Bob Hurst; her sister-in-law Aldeen and brother-in-law Clark Palfreyman; and her sister-in-law Ranee Thorpe
She is survived by her two children, Adrian Douglas, Andraya (Brian) Hanchett; one sister, MaryAnn and brother-in-law Steve Thoresen; brother-in-law Paul Thorpe; 4 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mom taught us to focus on the present moment, she had a mindset of living fully and enjoying life as it unfolded, rather than planning for the future or worrying about the past. She enjoyed the present and making the most of each day. She leaves us with a legacy to strive to do better with a positive attitude, and to be kind to others, for friends and family are what matter most. We let go of a remarkable woman, a loving mother, and a kind soul that loved everyone. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the love, joy, strength and kindness that were the essence of Mom’s being.
Per Mom’s request there will be no public viewing or funeral. A private family graveside service will be held at Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
We would like to thank the staff at Spring Gardens Assisted Living and Cascade Springs Hospice for caring for Mom and for all the love you have shown our family. To our beloved caretaker, Laticia, who cared for mom the last couple years, we will always love you as one of our own.
Condolences may be expressed to the family on this page.
