David Bigler Jr.

September 28, 1917 — July 5, 2007

David (Poon) Bigler Jr. passed away at his home on July 5, 2007 at the age of 89. He was born in Butte, Montana on September 28, 1917, as the first child of David Bigler Sr. and Hannah Pearl Butterfield Bigler.

He was raised in Payson, Utah and from a very young age he worked with his brothers and father making bulk deliveries for Conoco Gasoline. That started his lifelong vocation of running service stations that was only interrupted when he served in World War II in the US Army as a 1st Sergeant stationed in the South Pacific.

He married Mildred Rife from Eureka, Utah on April 29, 1939. They had two children, Dee Jay Bigler (Carol), Mapleton, Utah and Carmille Rodgers, Englewood, Colorado. They also helped raise two granddaughters Chris and Connie.

After the war he and his wife settled in Provo where he managed a service station for A L Duckett. He also managed several other stations in Provo and Springville. He and Mildred moved to Springville in 1977. Many of the auto dealers in Provo hired him to do their detail work on used cars, because he was so particular and did such a good job. After he retired he and Mildred ran the boat camp Renegade at Strawberry Reservoir for about 10 years. They had always loved to fish so they really enjoyed doing this. Dave loved people and no matter where he was working, he always made friends that would just stop by to chat. He was really a "people" person.

Dave was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The family would like to thank all of his friends at the Boulder Ranch Mobile Home Park (formerly Art City Mobile Home Park) for the care they took of Dave, especially his neighbor Peggy and his good friend Val.

Dave is survived by two sisters: Joan Lee Oberg, Payson; Faith Greaves, Reno, Nevada; his son, Dee Jay (Carol) Bigler, Mapleton; daughter, Carmille Rodgers, Englewood, Colorado; 8 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (2004); his parents and brothers, Max, Paul and Clark.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Kolob 6th Ward Chapel, 1230 South 500 East, Springville, UT. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary.
