These adventures would often be documented through another hobby of his, photography. He also liked to work on home projects and was an accomplished handyman.
David was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He volunteered many years of devoted service to the Seattle Temple as a temple worker alongside his wife, Gay. The two of them also served as missionaries for the newly-established Manhattan New York Temple, where they officiated in its very first session. David was a talented bass singer who often participated in church choirs. Additionally, he was an adventure-seeking scout leader, and took his troops on many exciting travels, including Baja Mexico by motorbike, and rafting on the Salmon River in Idaho.
