After high school, she attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science. During her time at BYU she served on several service committees and was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Alpha Theta honorary societies.
Delora was employed as a teacher in North Sacramento, California, for a short time until she returned to Springville and was called on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in Paris, France, from 1960 until 1962 where she developed a great love for the French people and culture.

Delora had a large yard and the pasture behind the house where she pampered her pet sheep. She said that her favorite peaceful place was sitting in her swing in the garden looking at her mother’s roses.

That was followed by two terms as the first woman Mayor of Springville from 1990 through 1997. Later she served for 2 terms as member of Springville Arts Commission.
