Dorothy Christine Stoddard

August 31, 1923 — July 3, 2007

Dorothy Christine Jensen Stoddard, age 81 of Ephraim, Utah passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Central Valley Medical Center in Nephi, Utah. She was born August 31, 1925 in Ephraim, Utah to Wilford and Ruth Jensen. She married Robert L. Stoddard June 9, 1948 in Ephraim, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan L.D.S. Temple.



Dorothy grew up and attended schools in Ephraim, Utah. She graduated from Utah State with a degree in Home Economics and a minor in Elementary Education. Dorothy taught school in St. Anthony, Idaho, Lehi, Utah and at Ephraim Elementary School for 31 years also serving as interim principal for one year. Through her teaching, Dorothy had a positive impact on hundreds of lucky second grade students. Dorothy was loved by her students. Education was extremely important in her life and was demonstrated through her teaching and her service to Snow College. Learning was imbedded in her soul.



Dorothy served on the Ephraim Co-Op Board assuming many responsibilities. She was a member of the D.U.P. and served as president for two terms. Dorothy served faithfully in many capacities of the L.D.S. Church including Ward Young Women's President and Stake and Ward Relief Society President. One of her favorite assignments was serving with her beloved husband, Bob in the Manti Temple. Dorothy loved the people of Ephraim and enjoyed serving with them.



Dorothy received many tributes in life. She was awarded the "Candle" by Ephraim Middle School for being an outstanding citizen. She was also honored by being Utah Mother of the Year.



Dorothy enjoyed traveling abroad to many locations. Two of her frequent travel spots included Denmark and Tahiti, where she made and maintained many friends.



Dorothy was pleased with the accomplishments of her posterity. Dorothy was extremely close with her grandchildren and she thought of each one of them as her favorite. She loved having some of them live with her while attending Snow College. Other grandchildren lived on campus and would visit her often and share fun times. Her life was about family.



She is survived by Kristine (James) Tatton, Katherine (Pete) Nelson, Mark (LeAnn) Stoddard, Julie (Jeff) Warren, 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Voniel (Neil) Reid. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; two brothers and two sisters: George Wilford, Rex Devon, Wilma Raye and Lola Deliah.



Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ephraim Stake Center, 400 East Center Street, Ephraim, UT. Friends may call at the Stake Center on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. or Saturday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ephraim City Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary.
