Listen to Obituary

Blair found his place in the things he enjoyed most, being outdoors, summers in Lake Okoboji, working in his yard with great care, fishing, and of course, skeet and trap shooting. He was an exceptional shot, known for breaking 200–250 targets consecutively something he was widely known for and took quiet pride in. He was also a true craftsman, with a creative ability to build just about anything. From uniquely beautiful birdhouses to custom log beds, he took pride in working with his hands and bringing ideas to life. He also spent many years working at Sportsman’s Warehouse, worked for Geneva Steele, and served in the Utah Army National Guard with the 116th Brigade—all of which reflected his connection to the outdoors and the disciplines he valued.

He shared 57 years of marriage with his wife, Toni Lee Miguel Ely, who preceded him in death. Together, they built a life centered around family, lasting friendships, and meaningful memories.

Blair is survived by his sons, Justin Ely (Sybrina) and Zac Ely. Time with his boys was often spent fishing, shooting, and being outside, where skills, independence, and an appreciation for the simple things were naturally passed down.

Blair’s love for his grandchildren was unmistakable. Vivian Vigil (Eli) and Nicolas Ely brought out a deep sense of pride in him. It was easy to see how much they meant to him and how proud he was of the lives they are building and the people they have become.

He is also survived by his siblings Glade Ely (Sherri) and Karen Warren (Lee), who grew up with him in Payson, Utah, where stories of milking cows, beloved horses, and days spent on the farm were often remembered. He was also an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvine Lafayette Ely and Clara Phylis Tiffany Ely, and his wife, Toni Ely. He leaves behind his faithful companion, George, and will be reunited with his trusted black lab, Lucy Mae.

Blair could often be found at his most content sitting on his deck, enjoying an ice-cold beer and the quiet of the moment.

There is a simplicity in remembering him as he was. It has been said best that there will only ever be one Blair.

A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah, on May 8th at 3:00 PM, where Blair will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Toni.

Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather for a celebration of life at the Ely residence, 650 East 1200 North, Mapleton, Utah 84664, beginning at 5:00 PM—a place filled with many memories and one they both loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Blair’s memory by contributing toward the education of his grandchildren. Donations may be made via Venmo at @Sybrina-Ely.
