Erma Oakley Vierra

Erma Cole Oakley-Vierra, 87, of Springville, Utah, passed away on April 6, 2024, at 10:30 pm.

She was born on April 2, 1937, to Frank Forrest and Elma Hinton Cole. She married Ronald G. Olsen in 1954. A couple of years later, they divorced. In January 1957, she married Richard Alden Oakley, known as Alden or Oak. A short time later, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2010. She then married her current sweetheart, Larry Vierra, in January 2011.

Erma had many talents and interests. She excelled at sewing and home canning. She was an amazing cook and kept a beautiful and clean home. She loved gardening. Later, she went back to school and earned her Associate degree as a secretary at Utah Tech. She then worked for Utah State Extension Services in Provo and later at the Utah County Offices. She served in many primary and Relief Society positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Alden served a full-time mission in Houston, Texas, where she worked in the mission office, utilizing her secretary skills. Upon returning, they also served at the Church Office building in Salt Lake City, giving tours, and at the Springville Cannery, assisting patrons. She and her current husband, Larry, also served together for 5 years at the Provo Temple and 5 years at the Provo City Center Temple. They also served at the Springville Cannery and at the Assisted Living home in their ward.

Erma is survived by her current husband, Larry Vierra; 5 sisters and 1 brother, Jeanine Van Ausdal, Carma Johnson, Gail Pardue, Lynette Ortize, Roxanna Atkinson, and Lanny Cole; Also her children: David R. Oakley (Tammy), Mark R. Oakley (Ruby), Diane Woolsey (Jed), Janice Joe Juarez (Baltazar), and Autumn Oakley Barboa (Loyd, preceded in death); 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elma Cole; Brothers, Elwin Cole, Keith Cole, Wesley Cole, and Sisters, Nadine Johnson, LaRae Green, and Carolyn Madson; One great-grandchild, Selah Pappenfus.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kolob 7th ward chapel located at 840 South 400 East in Springville, UT. A viewing for friends and family will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary located at 211 East 200 South in Springville, and on Friday just prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery at 1997 South 400 East. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
