Fred Linn Buie, 82, passed away on November 19, 2025 at the Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, Utah attended by a wonderful hospice team.

Fred was born to Will Linn Buie and Mary Caroline Bird during World War II on January 15, 1943 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Will, who was serving overseas in the US Army, received word about Fred’s birth in a telegram. While his father fought in WWII, Fred and his mother lived with his grandmother, Ludena Percer Bird.

After high school graduation, Fred followed family tradition by joining the Air Force, serving in San Antonio, Texas at Lackland Air Force Base during the Vietnam War. He worked in Supply and Ration Breakdown.

After serving in the Air Force, Fred attended El Camino College, where he studied electronics. This training later led to a job in quality control for heart pacemakers.

He is remembered by his nieces and nephews as a good-natured man, who was quick to tease in a playful, fun-loving way, with a bright flash of a crooked smile and a deep, full laugh. He loved sharing moments of quirky goodwill and appreciated the simple joys in life.

Some of Fred’s nieces and nephews remember that he was very skilled at playing battleship and chess. He was a great strategist and they learned a lot and had fun playing games with him.

Fred is part Choctaw and is a citizen of the Choctaw nation. He is proud of his native American roots.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Marie Buie Jones, and her husband, Ted Mason Jones.

He is survived by his sister, Betty Fay Buie Anderson, and her husband, Steven Alvin Anderson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Fred will be buried at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.
