Irene Tanner Skinner

Irene (Tanner) Skinner, 99, of Mapleton, Utah passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023. She was born on January 20, 1924, in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Stanley and Elizabeth Arline Poulton Tanner. She married Herbert Max Skinner on September 18, 1942, in Santa Monica, California. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2007.

She was very talented and enjoyed playing the piano and painting. She also enjoyed homemaking, handwork, sewing, reading and watching old movies. She was very patriotic and enjoyed learning about American history and historical figures. 

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served diligently in many capacities throughout her life. Her strong testimony of the Savior sustained her throughout her life. She was an excellent and loving mother to nine children, grandmother to 45 children and great grandmother to 123 children and counting.

Irene is survived by seven of her nine children. Layne Serr (Ron) of Arden, Washington, John Skinner (Janelle) of Spanish Fork, Utah, Sally Hanson (Ron) of Spanish Fork, Utah, Bryan Skinner (Kelli) of Mapleton, Utah, Vance Skinner (Lisa) of Mapleton, Utah, James Skinner (Vicki) of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Maxine Sturgis (Willy) of Corpus Christi, Texas, forty-three grandchildren and 122 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two children, Herbert Kirk Skinner (son) and Arlene Zimmerman (daughter), two grandchildren Fred Skinner, Daisy Skinner, one great grandchild Thomas Hanson and by her siblings Robert Tanner, Geraldine Sorensen, and Kirk Tanner.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Mapleton 25th Ward Chapel located at 825 E. Hawks Nest Dr., Mapleton, UT. A graveside visit and dedication of the grave will take place immediately after the memorial service at Springville Evergreen Cemetery located at 1997 S. 400 E., Springville, Utah.
