Jack Lindsay Parker

Jack Lindsay Parker June 15, 1930–August 5, 2026

Jack Lindsay Parker left this frail existence at his son and daughter-in-law’s home in Henderson, Nevada, where their family lovingly cared for him for the past 11 months. The oldest of five children, Jack was born of goodly parents, Lindsay Charles Parker and his noble wife, Inez Wheeler, in Springville, Utah. Jack grew up there, graduating from high school in June 1948. He studied at Brigham Young University for two years followed by two years of missionary service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the South African Mission. Upon returning, Jack continued his studies at BYU, selected a physics major, and joined the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps.

During the next four years, he earned Bachelor and Master Degrees and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. However, Jack frequently stated the most important event during this time, by far, was the promise of Janice Young to become his wife. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 23,1956 shortly after he went on active duty in the Air Force.

Jack was stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio working on research programs for four years. During this time, Jack and Janice were blessed with three children. After completing Jack’s military duty, the family moved to Salt Lake City. During the next six and a half years, Jack was earning his PhD in nuclear physics at the University of Utah. This was a busy time as Jack and Janice welcomed three more children into the family.

After graduating, Jack accepted a position as a technical staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory and worked there for nearly 31 years. During their time in Los Alamos, five more beautiful children joined the family. The tenth child, daughter Rachel, lived just ten days. Their last child, Peter, was born two years later. The children grew to maturity and married, starting families of their own. Jack and Janice’s posterity grew to 69 grandchildren (35 grandsons and 34 granddaughters) and 73 great-grandchildren. Family was their greatest source of joy.

After retiring from the Laboratory in October 1997, he and Janice returned to Springville. There they built a new home on the location of the old house where Jack was raised, sharing it with his parents until their passing in 1998. Jack and Janice were then called to serve as missionaries in the Sydney North Australian Mission from August 1999 to August 2001 where Jack served as President of the Dubbo, Australia Branch. Following their mission, they lived peacefully and joyously in their Springville home. Jack then dedicated 25 years researching family history, cherishing newly found connections with ancestors.

Jack’s greatest treasures were his testimony of Jesus Christ and his family.

Jack was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rachel; his wife, Janice; and his oldest son David. Also preceded in death by his brothers David and Donald. He looked forward with faith to the time when he would rejoin them and rejoice in a post-mortal reunion.

Jack is survived by nine children and their spouses: David’s wife Loni, Elizabeth (Mike), Catherine (Richard), Rebecca (David), Jack (Collette), Caroline (Glade), Jean Marie (Tomm), Robert (Marsha), Donald (Beverly), and Peter (Florence), 69 grandchildren, and 73 great-grandchildren with four on the way.

He also leaves behind his sisters Linda and Mary (Tom), sister-in-law Janet, and Janice’s sister Christie (Grant).

The family expresses appreciation to the Spring Creek 4th Ward, hospice nurses Andrea and Matt, and Jack’s personal assistant and nurse, Doris. Thank you for your loving service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 350 North 400 East, Springville, Utah. Viewings for family and friends will be held from 6–8 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Wheeler & Sundberg Funeral Home, 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah, and from 9:30–10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, before the services at the church. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
