Jane Sophie Nielsen Strong passed away peacefully at her home in Springville, on December 19, 2007.
Jane was born on June 30, 1919, to James and Rebecca Amelia Pace Nielsen at their family home in Spanish Fork. She was the eighth of fourteen children born into a remarkable, close family. She appreciated her heritage and shared with her children and grandchildren the values and truths she learned from her parents and grandparents.
Jane grew up and attended school in Spanish Fork. She graduated from Spanish Fork High School and enjoyed playing the French horn in the school band. After high school she worked as a telephone operator and after her marriage she worked with her husband in his accounting practice which she maintained even after his death.
Jane married James Albert (Jay) Strong on December 15, 1941. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Together they had two sons and one daughter, J. Niel (Carolee) Strong, Kenneth M. (Jeri) Strong, and Janette Strong. Jay passed away in 1963.
Jane's life was one of service to her family, her Heavenly Father and to the many people she came into contact with. She faithfully served in ward and stake relief society presidencies and in primary. She had a strong testimony of visiting teaching and loved that calling. She also served as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple. Jane loved gardening and her yard was known for its gorgeous roses and the many beautiful flowers she planted every spring.
She has been a remarkable example of faith, hard work, and love and service to family. We recognize how blessed we were to have Grandma Jane's influence and guidance in our lives. She was a model to those who knew her of loving support and integrity. Her family will forever cherish her example and honor her memory.
Jane is survived by her three children as well as 13 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother J. Ross (Mary Jane) Nielsen, and sisters, Norma Broadbent, Florence Ruth (Joe) Creer, Lola Stone, Kathleen (LeRoy) Whitehead. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, Lynn Nielsen, LaVar Nielsen, Mark Nielsen, and sisters Fay Page, Mamie Johnson, Lucille Jones, Lois Ottesen, and Cally Cole.
