Jerry was born on January 8, 1937 to Eugene L. Brown and Ruth Elva Braithwaite Brown at his grandfather Robert Braithwaite's home in Manti, Utah. He was the third of five children and had fond memories growing up in the small rural town in Sanpete County. As a youth, he earned his own money as a paper boy delivering the Deseret News. Jerry attended the local schools, where he was active in student government and a devoted Manti High School Templer and graduated in 1956. While attending high school in 1955 he joined the Utah National Guard and was active in the Guard until he was honorable discharged in 1963.
After high school, Jerry attended Snow College until he was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the East Central States Mission, serving from 1958-1960. While attending Snow College, he met Linda Whitney from Springville who was also a student at Snow. During his mission, they corresponded and after his return to Utah, were married on September 1, 1961, in the Manti Temple.
From 1962-1965, the young couple lived in Salt Lake City, where Jerry worked as a credit manager. In 1965, the company transferred Jerry to Sacramento, where he was made credit manager for the northern California area. They eventually moved to Elk Grove, California and bought their first home.
In 1968, they had the opportunity to return to Utah, where Jerry attended Brigham Young University. With Linda's assistance and support, he graduated in 1971 with his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Jerry had an amazing first job as controller-accountant for the Utah Stars professional basketball team where he had front row seats, and many happy relatives and friends enjoyed attending the games at his invitation. Later, Jerry worked as the controller-accountant for other companies in the Orem area where they resided.
Jerry and Linda became loving parents to their children, Jonathan Whitney Brown, and Erica Emily Brown. Jerry was a wonderful and dedicated father, grandfather, brother and husband, and his family always knew of his love and devotion to them. He was involved in the Scouting program, attended the athletic, school and church events. Some of the favorite activities were the camping and fishing activities in their RV with extended family, a trip to Mazatlan, Mexico, the many trips to Disneyland, to the National Parks, and just being together as a family.
In 1989, they built their dream home in Springville, living in the Hobble Creek 5th Ward, for over 25 years, making great friends and wonderful memories. In 2016, they moved again to their new home at Garden Homes of Mill Pond, a Springville senior living community.
Jerry was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Besides devoting two years of service while on his mission, he served faithfully as financial clerk in both ward and stake capacities. For several years he actively worked as a consultant in the Family History Center in Springville. Jerry's hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, genealogy, and a devoted BYU sports fan. Jerry was a good and honorable man and had the pure love of Christ for everyone and everything.
In 2011, Jerry and Linda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an amazing cruise to Alaska and the surrounding areas. They were happily married for over 64 years. Not only were they a loving couple, they were the best of friends.
In 2013 Jerry and Linda toured Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, the birth place of Jerry's paternal great-grandfather, John Pack. John was in Brigham Young's Vanguard Company of 1847 and served as an advance scout, entering the Salt Lake Valley July 22, 1847.
