John Watson Todhunter

John Watson Todhunter, 54, of Springville, UT passed peacefully in the wee hours of July 18th, 2026 following a brief but fierce battle with cancer.

John was born on February 6th, 1972 in Provo, Utah to Ronald Watson Todhunter and Lynn Brailsford Todhunter. The second of five children, John spent his early years quietly showing the world how much cooler it could be with him in it. Raised in Springville, John’s family and friends watched as he mastered any hobby that caught his interest, be it angling, artwork, BMX racing, mountainbiking, skateboarding, watersport, and tinkering with anything within arm’s reach. John’s long, long bones were infused with the sand and water of the Utah landscape, and his singular laugh will ring forever throughout the canyons of Lake Powell and treetops of the Uintas.

The crux of John’s life arrived in his mid twenties in the tiny yet formidable form of his daughter, Journee. John’s reverence for fatherhood was eclipsed only by his enjoyment in watching Journee’s discovery of life’s myriad delights, becoming a much more attractive and feminine version of himself. Throughout the latter half of his life, Journee was and has always been the Pretty Girl who turned his life around (gratuitous Ween lyric). John’s love for his daughter is monolithic and divine.

John and Sunny met at the turn of the century, and were married May 1st, 2009 (mayday!). They were truly partners in all things life. The two were besotted, and their lives together were filled with joy, miracles, adventure, and endless laughter.

John’s friendship was generous, vast, and cherished by those fortunate enough to receive it. The life-long relationships that he built are a testament to the beauty, wonder, and awesome capacity of the human experience.

John’s interests and virtuosity proliferated with his age to include rock crawling in vehicles large and hand-held, billiards and darts, the art of bonsai, and friggin disc golf. Following a 20+ year stint at the aluminum plant in Spanish Fork (Alcoa/Sapa/Hydro), John co-founded and operated Birdcage Disc Golf Pro Shop in Orem and Springville. His skill in the game afforded him opportunities to play (and win) throughout Utah and the Western United States, and the friendships forged while doing so were plentiful and brought him boundless joy.

John is survived by his wife Sunny of Springville, Utah; his daughter Journee of Deadwood, South Dakota; mother Lynn of Spanish Fork, Utah; brother Alex Todhunter of Spanish Fork, Utah; sister Angie (Brandon) Owens of Mapleton, UT; sister Emily (Shaun) Black of Elk Ridge, UT; and hetero life partner Rob (Melanie) Hoover of Elk Ridge, UT.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm with funeral services the following day, July 27th, at 11:00 am. Both will be held at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 W. 200 S. Springville, UT. Internment will follow at the Benjamin City Cemetery, 9000 South 3200 West, roughly 5 miles west of Spanish Fork. A luncheon for family and friends will be served at the Jolley’s Ranch Church Pavillion, right fork, Hobble Creek Rd, Springville, UT. Following the luncheon, you are encouraged to cast a line into the creek, take a bike ride up the canyon, or toss a round of disc golf at the Jolley’s Ranch Disc Golf Course.
