Karen Butterfield

Karen Butterfield passed away on June 2, 2026, following a sudden and fatal stroke. She was 56 years old. Though her passing came far too soon, she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, adventure, and devotion to family that will be cherished forever.

Born on November 4, 1969, and raised in Mapleton, Utah, Karen was the oldest of five children. From an early age, she naturally stepped into the role of caregiver and protector. Family was always at the center of her life, often becoming a second mother to her nieces and nephews, and she took great pride in being a source of support, encouragement, and unconditional love.

Karen graduated from Utah Valley State College with a degree in Business alongside her sister, a milestone that reflected her determination and dedication. Throughout her career, she worked for Nature's Way, USANA, Nutrix, and Streem Solutions where she formed lasting friendships.

Karen loved her coworkers and considered them an extension of her family. Whether she was solving a problem, helping a coworker, or offering a word of encouragement, Karen approached everything she did with grace and professionalism. She was a friend to all and earned the respect and admiration of everyone fortunate enough to work with her. Curt and Erik, her bosses, were never simply bosses. They became dear friends and chosen family—people she laughed with, leaned on, and cherished. Their love, guidance, and friendship enriched her life in countless ways.

Karen had a passion for travel and embraced every opportunity to explore new places, meet new people, and create meaningful memories. She was always ready for an adventure and planning her next concert to rock out at. She also loved shopping and loved looking for the next bargain on her next wanted item. She always knew how to shop the sales and help people get what they want and the best price possible.

One of the greatest loves of Karen's life was her beloved dog, Sebby. She was more than a pet, Sebby was her constant companion, faithful friend, and source of comfort and happiness. Their bond was inseparable, and in a touching testament to their love for one another, Sebby remained by her side until the very end.

Karen's greatest gift was her ability to make people feel loved. Whether through a thoughtful phone call, a listening ear, a shared laugh, or a simple act of kindness, she made everyone around her feel seen and valued. Her nieces and nephews especially felt the depth of her love and support, and many looked to her as a trusted mentor, confidante, and second mother.

Karen is survived by her loving parents, Allan and Diane Butterfield; her beloved dog, Sebby; her siblings, David (Cindy) Butterfield, Wendy Sorenson, Jared (Brenda) Butterfield, and Jill (Shaune) Cottam; and countless nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and couldn’t wait for the next time they were going on an adventure with their aunt Karen.

A celebration of Karen's life will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, with a viewing from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 82 West 400 North, Mapleton, Utah. An additional viewing will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1050 North 300 West, Mapleton, Utah. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and join in celebrating Karen's life, sharing memories, and honoring the lasting impact she had on all who knew and loved her.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind and in the love she shared so freely. Karen's kindness, generosity, adventurous spirit, and unwavering devotion to family will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.

Karen will be deeply missed and forever remembered. She believed life was meant to be lived fully and often reminded those she loved that life is too short—buy the thing, take the trip, call people on your way home from work to let them know they matter, and make the memory. In honor of Karen, may we continue to embrace adventure, treasure time with those we love, enjoy a little retail therapy now and then, and never pass up the chance to rock out to the songs that bring us joy. There is no doubt that Karen would want nothing less.
