Our loving wife, mom, and grandma passed away on March 16, 2022, after a brief encounter with cancer.
Karen Faye Oldroyd Measom was born in Salt Lake City to Roland and Faye Herbert Oldroyd on March 25, 1942. At age eight she moved to Springville where her father owned SOS Drug Store. Karen enjoyed working as a soda jerk with her dad for many years. She graduated from Springville High School in 1960 and loved being a Red Devil. The deep relationships she cemented with her classmates remained strong throughout her life. Monthly club luncheons and annual girlfriend trips to St. George enriched her life.
She married Lee Measom on November 24, 1961 and they recently celebrated their 60ᵗʰ wedding anniversary. They lived in Arizona, Texas, and North Carolina before settling in Springville, Utah.
Together they raised 5 children. Karen adored her family and recently shared that her favorite vacation was “anywhere with her family.” Her little quotes and life lessons have been repeated over and over again and many kids referred to Karen as their “second mom”.
Karen exemplified service, positivity, love, and gratitude in her daily life. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the only calling she ever said no to was primary chorister (at age 70!) Her positive leadership influenced others as she served in the Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society organizations. She provided love and care to young missionaries while serving as a missionary with Lee in the Texas Houston Mission in 2005-2006.
Karen worked for Intermountain Health Care as the office manager at the Springville Instacare. Her warm smile greeted every patron and she met lifelong friends while working there.
Throughout the past few weeks we’ve found ourselves longing to bottle up the moments spent together and wear them as perfume everyday. Tender times with Karen have left permanent footprints on our hearts.
Karen is survived by her husband of over 60 years, children: Kami Creer (Chris), Keri Measom-Francis (Scott), Spencer Measom, Karlee Uresk (Dustin), 15 grandchildren: Brooke, Amber, Alexander, Andrew, Nickolas, Benjamin, McKenna (Tyler), Saige, Tess, Cameron, McKay, Gracie, Carter, and Isabella, brother Rod Oldroyd (Christine), sister Julie Huntington (Mack), sisters-in-law Diane Allen (Richard), Carole Oldroyd and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kendal Oldroyd, son Lance Measom, and grandson Matthew Measom.
Karen’s favorites included yellow, all yellow flowers, sunshine, chocolate, Diet Coke, shopping, lunch and dinner outings, perfume, lipstick, going for drives, Disney, musical theater, Mt. Timpanogos, positive quotes, cards, celebrating everything, and serving sundaes topped with her homemade hot fudge.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to treat yourself and your family to one of Karen’s favorites. Please post a picture on Karen Measom’s Facebook page, which will now be Karen’s Memorial Facebook Page.
Special thanks to Encompass Hospice and Nurse Nancy, aka Sally, for walking beside us during this transition.
