Kathleen Fietkau Winget was surrounded by loved ones when she peacefully passed away on October 17, 2026. She was born on September 1, 1950, in Provo, Utah, to Reed and Bessie Horrocks Fietkau. As the surprise fifth child, Kathy grew up with three additional moms—her older sisters—and a teenage brother. She treasured the one-on-one time she shared with her parents, forging a special bond that would remain with her throughout her life.
Kathy was a proud Springville Red Devil and later attended Brigham Young University, where she met the love of her life, Jon Winget. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1971 and welcomed five children, eventually settling in Springville. There, Kathy put down deep roots, volunteering in various church and community callings. She was a devoted mother who found great joy in supporting her children’s many interests and hobbies, making wonderful friends along the way.
In addition to raising her family, Kathy built an impressive career at Utah Valley Hospital, where she worked for over 20 years. She managed the psychiatric office and took great pride in helping create a comforting experience for patients and families navigating difficult times.
Kathy was a natural caregiver, and as her parents aged, they became part of the Winget family. This was a sacred time for all who knew Kathy, who witnessed firsthand the tenderness and devotion with which she cared for her mother as Bessie battled dementia. Her nurturing spirit extended to her 22 grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She never missed a ball game, dance performance, graduation, or birthday. Upon retirement, Jon and Kathy were called to serve as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at Heber Valley Girls Camp and later at Mutual Dell. Kathy loved operating the zip line and participating in the many fun activities designed to bring youth closer to their Savior.
Kathy was an elegant, classy lady who carried herself with grace and confidence. She had a wonderful sense of style and an eye for beauty. Her timeless elegance was a reflection of the dignity, warmth, and quiet confidence that made her so memorable. She had a way of making even the simplest moments feel special, and her grace extended far beyond her appearance into the way she treated others.
Scenic drives, dance parties, Johnny Mathis, and a fresh Diet Coke always brought a smile to Kathy’s face—but nothing compared to seeing Jon walk into a room. Her adoration for her eternal companion was beautiful to witness and something we should all aspire to. Even as her memory began to fade, her deep love and concern for those around her remained unmistakable until the end.
Throughout her life, Kathy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a deep and abiding testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and His infinite love for each of us. Her faith was reflected in the way she lived—in her devotion to her family, her willingness to serve others, and the compassion she showed to those in need. Her testimony was a quiet but powerful influence on those around her, and her love for the Savior was evident in the life she led.
Kathy is survived by her beloved husband, Jon; her children, Angie (Frank) Daybell, Chery (Travis) Morgan, Nate (Courtney) Winget, Natalie Winget, and Haylee (Chad) Hudgens; her 22 grandchildren, Chase, Maddie, Will (Mikkele), Sam, and Jack (Karly) Daybell; Riley (Lauren), Brooke (Scott) Callister, Brady, and Lindsey Morgan; Reagan (Tanner) Liljenquist, Ruby, Wade, and Logan Winget; Cayla (Cole) Smith, Ally, Payton, and Gus Giles; and Hattie, Maggie, Gunner, Jett, and Mila Hudgens; her six great-grandchildren Nixon, Jackson, Crew and Delainey, children of Brooke (Scott) Callister; Tennyson, son of Riley (Lauren) Morgan and Monroe, daughter of Will (Mikkele) Daybell; and her brother, Ben (Mary Ann) Fietkau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reed and Bessie Horrocks Fietkau, and her sisters, Doris (Les) Harper, Flora (Ralph) Jacobson, and LaRae (Robert) Crandall.
