Kathryn (Kay) Christensen Decker (84) passed away peacefully in South Jordan, Utah on September 2, 2025. She experienced a number of health complications earlier this year from which she was unable to fully recover.
Kay was born in Pensacola, Florida to Col. James R. and Edith Christensen. She was the oldest of three children. Growing up in a military family, Kay lived in many different locations including Tsingtoa in China, Salt Lake City, Utah and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Kay attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. While attending school, Kay met Miles Decker on a blind date. They were married on December 20, 1963 in the Salt Lake City Temple. She taught school for a short time in Provo, Utah before starting her family. She was a dedicated wife and mother raising five children with her husband, Miles. After living in Utah, they moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and then to Torrence and Thousand Oaks, California. After that they returned to Utah and lived in Salt Lake City for a number of years and then Bountiful, Utah. In her later years, she and Miles moved to Mapleton, Utah.
She is survived by five children: Kristine Marsh (Mark), Lisa Hill (Jared), Steven Decker (Sharon), Brian Decker (Jamilah) and Janeen Donat (Tyler); 20 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and her brother, Jim Christensen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles, and her sister, Linda.
A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah.
