Kathyrn Greenhalgh

November 18, 1932 — February 17, 2024

Mapleton, UT

Mary Kathyrn Bell Marlin Jones Greenhalgh passed from this life in the Mapleton, Utah home of her daughter on February 17, 2024; six months after the detection of cancer. Her loving presence had a profound impact on all who knew her. We will always treasure the time we shared with her.

Kathyrn was born on November 18, 1932 in Cline, Utah to Hilma Ellen Elliott and Glenn Bell. Her childhood was full of uncertainty and unnecessary hardship. She was often neglected by those who should have loved her most. Kathyrn never let this poison her perspective on life or her interactions with others. Her favorite hymn was “Love One Another” and she lived accordingly. Her consistent kindness attracted and comforted the troubled and vulnerable. She had a particular fondness for young children and served in the LDS Primary numerous times. Upon completion of her service in one primary, the other leaders asked the children “Who in this room loves you like the Savior does?” to which the young voices chimed “Sister Jones!”

Kathyrn exemplified a life filled with love for one another as well as a life filled with the joys of this existence. For her, that started with a clean home, which she had a talent for creating, whether that be in a boxcar in the desert or an apartment in Spanish Fork. She kept her home decorated in blues and whites—when not decorated for holidays—and filled with sweet fragrances, flowering plants, and high quality chocolate. Kathyrn’s green thumb extended from potted plants to garden plots, where she also delighted in bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She had a lifelong love of athletics and was an avid baseball fan.

Kathyrn had a head for learning, despite lacking opportunities as a youth. At 50 she earned her GED and nursing certificate and enjoyed a 20 year career in doctors’ offices.

Kathyrn is survived by her children: Terry (Shauna) Jones, Micheal (Sigrid) Jones, Kim Scott (Penny) Jones, and Kathy (Eric) Hyde; nine grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death are Becky Nan (daughter), Don Marlin (brother), James Elden “Chick” Greenhalgh (husband), Aralda Jones (ex-husband), Nicholas Jones (grandson), and Angela Jones Crook (granddaughter).

Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Friday, February 23, 6:00-8:00 pm at Wheeler Mortuary 82 West 400 North, Mapleton, UT 84664. Her memorial will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 11:30 to 12:30 in the LDS chapel at 31 West Maple St, Mapleton, UT 84664.

A special thanks to all the wonderful people who cared for Kathyrn at the Legacy House of Spanish Fork, her happiness there meant the world to us. We also cannot thank enough the Utah Home Health and Hospice for the tender care and kindnesses in her final weeks.
