Katie Alice Lipovich Jones

January 6, 1976 — August 25, 2023

Springville

Katie passed away peacefully, in her sleep, at home on August 25, 2023. Katie was born in Leesburg, Virginia to Jay Lipovich and Bobbie Amos.  She lived in Virginia, Ohio, California, Nevada and Utah where she graduated from Pleasant Grove High.

Katie played the violin in her youth and never lost her love of music. She seemed to carry songs in her heart.  Whether a song she heard on the radio or a silly tune made up on the spot about whatever she was doing, Katie often sang her way through life.

From an early age Katie possessed a strong love for people, especially children, and she also developed incredible cleaning skills.  These two combined to make her a much sought-after baby-sitter as a teenager, and continued to be fundamental ways in which she would bless others’ lives.

Katie married Alex Bray and they had four children; Damen, Hannah, Veda and River, ages 18-27. Becoming a mother was one of her greatest joys in life. Katie instilled a love of nature in all her children, sharing outdoor adventures with them from the moment each was born.

Katie was an absolute magician in the kitchen. If you ever got to try her famous lemon-ricotta cookies, you know what we mean. She appreciated both fine dining and homemade comfort food. She took culinary classes at UVU to hone her skills and spent most of her life in the restaurant industry.

In addition to the food, Katie loved the people aspect of restaurants. She had the gift of making instant, genuine heart connections with others, allowing people to feel genuinely seen and heard in her presence.

Katie married Dan Jones in 2017 and they settled in Springville, Utah.  Katie and Dan shared a love of nature and enjoyed camping and traveling together. Both being hard workers, they excelled at tackling projects as a couple. More than anything, Katie and Dan laughed together.

Katie had a green thumb and could help anything flourish, from houseplants to honeydews. The first thing she did at her home with Dan was till a place for a vegetable garden.  She loved sharing her harvest and delighted in the abundance she coaxed from the earth.

Katie served in the Young Women’s program and in Relief Society in her church.

Katie exuded a joyful, playful spirit. She was affectionate and silly. Being with her made everything more fun. She loved to smell things — perfumes, food, books, people, everything. She was the first to offer help to others. If she saw a need, she’d pitch in to fill it. She was sensitive, empathetic and observant. Katie could sense when someone was struggling and would show up with a plate of cookies (lemon-ricotta if you were lucky), ready to listen.

Katie also had an understanding of the human condition, which enabled her to easily recognize suffering and the needs of others. She had faith in the ultimate goodness of people and a strong belief in what the next stage of existence would bring.

Katie is survived by her husband, Dan Jones; her four children, Damen, Hannah, Veda, and River; her parents, Jay (Jean) Lipovich, and Bobbie (Kelvin) Miller, as well as her sister Erin Lipovich (David Sals) and siblings, Brandt (Rachel) Miller, Bart (Nicole) Miller, Kandin (Jason) Willes, Jon (Genisis) Miller, Morgan (Rick) Roberts, Jessie (John) Anderson, and Melissa Lipovich; and former spouses Alex Bray and Mitch Mahana.
