Our beautiful mother and grandmother LaRell (Lorrie) Thurman Bird, age 93, of Springville, passed away Sunday, November 30 surrounded by her family. She was born October 5, 1921, in Grover, Star Valley, Wyoming to Charles Alvin Thurman and Zilpha Ann Lowder. She married Robert Freeman Bird on November 10, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death December 28, 2011.
Lorrie had a beautiful singing voice and played the piano. She loved music and it was a source of joy her entire life. She also loved art, literature, languages, and nature. Her beautiful paintings gave her great comfort during her final illness.
Lorrie had many wonderful service opportunities throughout her life but she especially loved her mission to Jamaica from February 1985 to June 1986, which she served with her husband, Bob. She loved the Jamaican Saints to whom she taught music and piano. She had a deep testimony of the Savior and was a faithful member of the LDS Church her entire life.
Lorrie is survived by her four living children and daughter-in-law: Diana, Kathleen, Michael, Pamela Becker (Tim), Merry (Brian); 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was devoted to her children and loved to spend time with them. She was preceded in death by her husband and her youngest son, Brian, who passed away in 2010.
