Lloyd Otis Randall passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, in Springville, Utah, at the age of 86, following a recent minor stroke.
Born in Seattle, Washington, on September 15, 1938, to Otis Duncan Randall and Katherine Temple Woolfolk, Lloyd spent most of his childhood in Portland, Oregon. There, he was shaped by the values of thrift, generosity, and hard work.
Lloyd graduated from Jefferson High School in 1956 and began his studies at Brigham Young University. In 1958, he paused his education to serve a 30-month mission in the North German Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was among the final groups of missionaries to cross the Atlantic by steamliner, a story he loved to share along with his impressive recollection of the German language.
Upon the end of his mission in 1961, his father joined him in Germany, and the two set off on a once-in-a-lifetime, father-and-son world tour, visiting 30 countries on “around-the-world” airline tickets. After his adventures, Lloyd returned to BYU, where he enlisted in the Utah National Guard and later earned a degree in Business Management.
On August 29, 1964, he married Mary Jean Girton in the Idaho Falls Temple, starting an eternal partnership full of faith, family, and friends. Together, they made their home in Portland, Oregon, where they raised ten children on a three-acre property that became the heart of family life. It was there that Lloyd and Mary taught the values of work, kindness, service, and patience. Lloyd was known among his children for his perfect timing, often showing up with a milkshake, soda, or sweet treat just when it was needed to lift the mood.
They were later blessed with 28 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; each of whom knew they were deeply loved. A trip to see Grandpa included a listening ear, a big hug, and ice cream after dinner. Just as he did with his children, Lloyd set an example for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren of what it means to work hard, serve others, and live with a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
Throughout his professional life in the banking industry, Lloyd worked with institutions such as First Interstate Bank and Wells Fargo. He was respected not only for his skill and steadiness, but for his unwavering integrity and fairness. Alongside his career, Lloyd served faithfully in all of his church callings, including as Bishop of the Sunset Hills Ward. Later in life, he and Mary served in the Portland, Oregon Mission office and then together as full-time missionaries in the Minneapolis, Minnesota Mission. Lloyd’s financial management and administrative skills were an asset to both missions.
Lloyd’s love for his family manifested in many ways throughout his life. His passion for family history led him to spend countless hours tracing his ancestry, compiling photographs and records of loved ones, and connecting with distant relatives through shared names and stories.
It became a running joke in the family that if Lloyd talked with someone long enough, he would find a way they were related. He carried the charge among his family when it came to ensuring that temple work was completed, and he faithfully spent many hours serving in the temple himself. Lloyd loved both the family that he came from and the family that he and Mary created. A visit with him meant learning what the children, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandkids were up to, and Lloyd always was excited to share in both the joys and sorrows of his posterity. His generosity with his time, talents, and testimony has profoundly impacted those he loved and who loved him. He will be greatly missed and well-remembered.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary, and children Andrew (Jolene), Matthew (Alycia), Nathan (Heather), Aaron (Jennifer), Elizabeth (Eric), Seth (Christina), Joanna (Chris), and Rachel, and their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Christopher (Amy) and Joshua.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 1068 South 1600 West, Mapleton, Utah. Burial will be in the Mapleton City Cemetery.
