Marie "Mimi" Oldroyd

Marie “Mimi” Oldroyd passed away peacefully in American Fork, Utah, on June 4th, 2026, with loving members of her family by her side.

She was born in Provo, Utah, on December 1st, 1960, into the loving family of Berdean E. And Elsa Leavitt Oldroyd, longtime residents of Springville, Utah. She was the sixth of seven children. Although Marie’s life was full of physical and mental limitations, Marie excelled in this life. With the help of a loving family and a network of kind Brookside neighbors willing to lend a hand with kindness, compassion and love, Marie had a wonderful childhood.

Marie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She found joy in Sunday School and Primary and learning all the songs and hymns that she would remember and share her entire life. She had so many teachers that contributed to enriching her life, in particular Gloria Rife. She learned to love the Savior and valiantly shared that love with everyone her entire life. She loved her personal copy of the Bible and spoke of it often.

Marie was a student of Brigham Young University’s inaugural program for special educational needs children where she thrived.

She was able to find thrill and accomplishment through participating in the Special Olympics competitions. She was so proud of her many medals!

Marie loved to swim and ride her three-wheel bike around her neighborhood in Brookside. She was enthusiastic to show off her badges on her vest that she earned through the special Girl Scout program.

She developed a special love of animals, beginning with her first kitty named Sox.

Marie was known for year-round singing of Christmas songs and sharing her enthusiastic love of Christmas and Santa Claus. She loved patriotic songs and would belt out “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” even during prayer. She especially liked to sing “I Am a Child of God.”

For Marie to continue to grow and excel, she became a resident of the Utah State Developmental Center in American Fork. Her life was incredibly enriched by the skilled staff in her new home.

She continually grew and adapted into her new life under the expertise, love and compassion of USDC.

She loved being silly, telling jokes and giggling.

Marie’s genuine love for everyone, complete with tender hugs, will be greatly missed. The world was indeed a better place with Marie in it.

Marie is survived by her siblings: Patricia Sue Hansen of Tucson, Arizona; Maureen Chamberlain (Greg) Hurricane, Utah; Wendy Lamoreaux (Terry) Cedar City, Utah; Donald D. Oldroyd (Kiku) Riverton, Utah; Lisa Vance of Pleasant Grove, Utah. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family that she adored.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Douglas C. Oldroyd and his wife Julie Wardell Oldroyd.

A viewing for friends and family will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wheeler & Sundberg Funeral Home, 211 East 200 South Springville, Utah, and prior to services from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church in American Fork. Interment will be held in Springville, Utah, at Evergreen cemetery.

Funeral services for Marie will be held Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. (A-Frame Chapel, West side of USDC) 835 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah, 84003.
