Marie M. Thomas 86 of Springville, Utah, passed away December 3, 2020 at Courtyard at Jamestown in Provo Utah. She was born April 7, 1934 in Deviona Tennessee. She was one of ten siblings born to Mary Anderson McCloud and Alonzo McCloud. She married Elwood C Thomas in June of 1959. He preceded her in death on November 13, 2009.
Marie was an ordained minister and earned an Honorary Dr of Theology. She also obtained her General Contracting license. She pastored The Good News Lighthouse church for many years. Her love and devotion to God and her family was the focus of her life. Her knowledge of scripture was unparalleled. Marie had a beautiful singing voice. She used this gift throughout her life both as a career and to share her love for God. Marie also volunteered at the hospital. She sang, shared the gospel of Christ, and provided communion to suffering patients. Marie witnessed and led many friends and family to salvation through Jesus Christ.
Marie had quite a reputation as a young girl growing up in Tennessee. She was known as a tough and fearless girl who was fiercely protective of her family. Many stories have been told of Marie and her exploits as a child and young adult.
Marie was preceded in death by her children and step-children Rodger Bartlett, Hazel Maltby, Richard Bartlett, Rex Thomas, and Marie Whitney. She is survived by her children William (Bill) Thomas, Nomie Mills, Rhonda King, and Tommy Thomas. She was also blessed with twenty-seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by seven of her siblings. She is survived by her sister Noma Lee Boralho and her brother Thurman McCloud and his wife Lil McCloud.
A viewing for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, January 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville, Utah. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 15, 2020, at 11:00 am also at Wheeler Mortuary. She will be buried at Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 N. 650 E. Provo, Utah. A gathering time for family and friends will be from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Directions will be provided at the memorial.
